The old internet is still alive if you know where to look, just overshadowed. What did you miss the most about the old internet?

@taatm @molly0xfff the Web1.0 (pre Web2.0 of corporate walled gardens) solution was simple: RSS/email lists + webrings.
it should be adopted by the coming Web1.0+ - a de-centralized, federated internet, ran for and by People, often self-hosted, where corporations do NOT control what we see or can do and access, but now with obscenely fast broadband and stupid powerful processors, running on FOSS =D
After seeing today's Lateral episode (this is not a spoiler btw), I was reminded of the days when sites would use pop-up licences on their websites. Specifically, the ones where the text in the pop-ups was editable - because someone fucked up.
You could literally delete some/all the text and write whatever you wanted in its place. Then you'd click the ACCEPT button and it'd work.
I'm still owed billions of dollars as well as several first-born children.
Resurrect the Old Web
"Well, what if I told you we could have the old web back?
In my opinion the answer is honestly pretty simple: blogs and RSS feeds."

Redoing my #Introduction since I’m on a new server.
Hi! After studying chemistry, I’ve spent the last twenty five years in IT, first as a #Web1.0 programmer and #sysop during the 90’s, then in #itsupport and #dataanalyst roles this century.
I read “My Side of the Mountain” and “The Mysterious Island” as a kid and have always been fascinated with a diy approach to civilization: #camping, #gardening, #hamradio, and #brewing.
IRC was the original Discord, and The Serial Port did a great job of explaining how revolutionary IRC really was. Would you join an IRC chat in today's age?

let's bring back the old internet, huh? people forgot that the internet belongs to them, not corporations. support indie projects and initiatives. join the ∆-movement (ILLUMINATI REVEALED), everything is cool there
@davidbardos Earlier, on another instance, I wrote about how I learned Python by developing my own board game.
What I didn't remember was that I wrote a blog while doing it. I've found it during degoogling. Got a takeout and republished the posts on my new web 1.0 (static) blog here:

And while I'm searching through the Wayback Machine, my earliest blogs are all there:

(found with the always awesome Wayback Machine of @internetarchive )

Why I 🧡 the web.
https://hypertext.tv/ has "daily and weekly TV programming for handmade games, art, and other websites."
