Galaxy Watch6 will get the April 2025 update globally soon!

Samsung always releases all smartwatch updates to Korea first before all other regions to ensure that everything is OK according to early feedback from users. For example, after the Watch7 update has been released, the April 2025 update has been released to the Galaxy Watch6, starting with Korea. This happened on April 21st.

Our analysis of the release dates of new firmware updates, starting from the final One UI 6 Watch released last November, has come to the conclusion that the following updates were released in this way for the BT version:

  • BXJ5 (One UI 6 Watch update with October 2024 security patch)
    • Korea: November 19th, 2024
    • Global: November 26th, 2024
    • Difference: exactly 7 days
  • BXL2 (Stability update with October 2024 security patch)
    • Korea: January 7th, 2025
    • Global: January 14th, 2025
    • Difference: exactly 7 days

For the Watch7, the latest update, AYCD, was released like this:

  • AYCD (One UI 6 Watch update with March 2025 security patch)
    • Korea: April 8th, 2025
    • Global: April 14th, 2025
    • Difference: exactly 6 days

There is an update pending release for the global, the BYD1 update, that was released in Korea on April 21st, 2025. Therefore, according to the update record, we expect that the global rollout becomes available on either April 28th or 29th. If our analysis is right, the Galaxy Watch6 users will be able to update their watches in the two mentioned days.

Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4 are still waiting for this update.

Google Play System Update (April 2025) rolls out for Samsung devices

Google Play System Update was a feature that was introduced for devices that ship with Android 10 or newer. It’s mandatory for device manufacturers that plan to release their devices with Android 10 to support Google Play System Updates. As a result, non-Google devices, such as Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets released with Android 10 (One UI 2.1), can receive such updates, too.

These updates don’t require security updates from the manufacturer to work, as Project Mainline modules work independently to give you better experience with Android phones and tablets.

On April 24th, a new Google Play System Update has been pushed to Samsung devices. This update upgrades your Project Mainline modules to the April 1st, 2025 version. This update weighs around 36 MB.

To be able to get this version, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your device’s settings
  2. Open the security settings
  3. Find “Google Play System Update” and tap on it
  4. If everything goes OK, you should see the below update dialog:

Click on Download and Install, wait for it to download, then reboot your device by clicking on the blue Restart button. The next time your device boots up, the revised update gets installed, so it’s going to take about 3 minutes maximum to install all the updates.

There is no progress bar, so don’t panic if it looks stuck. Your device will eventually boot up. Now, open your settings app and check your Google Play System Update. If everything is well, you should see April 1st, 2025 below the appropriate button.

In case your device didn’t receive the update, wait for a few days, and it will be available shortly.

Stay tuned for the May patch of 2025!

I got a new phone. It's an #Android 14.
#DidITakeMyMeds notifications don't stick around anymore.
Neither do #MedTime notifications.
These notifications are set to be high priority.
However, they briefly pop up on the screen and then disappear.
Apparently this is a #Android14 problem. But it's incredibly dangerous.
For me personally, not so much, but for those whose lives depend more on these notifications, it's a much bigger problem. I really do need my #Medication though...

The latest #Android #AOSP security patch marks the end of public Android #12 and #12L security patch support.

There are a number of #Automotive #Infotainment systems based on #Android12 or #Android12L, so it'll be interesting to see whether companies provide updates to #Android13 (or, more likely, #Android14), or whether we see head-units left vulnerable to issues discovered in the coming months and years.

Galaxy A55 gets the April 2025 security patch

Samsung has recently began distributing the April 2025 security patch to the Galaxy A55 that is eligible for One UI 7. This is built on top of One UI 6.1 that uses Android 14 as the base. According to the latest data, we have found the following firmware versions released:

  • SM-A556E: A556EXXS7AYC8
  • SM-A556S: A556SKSS4AYC5 (Quantum5)

For those who are in India, this is the required update before they’ll be able to join the Beta program, which is expected to start this week. This program is expected to finish in May 2025 as Samsung rolls it out.

To obtain the update, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Navigate to Software update
  3. Tap on Download and Install
  4. You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
  5. Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.

This security update should take 5 to 10 minutes maximum to install. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later. To mitigate green line issues caused by heat, do the update on a well-ventilated room.

Enjoy!

Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy S23 devices freeze on Instagram Reels

In some regions, such as India and UAE, almost three weeks after the most recent security update has been applied to the Galaxy S23 devices, people began reporting issues regarding their devices freezing and rebooting automatically. This issue was disruptive for users, because it means that they have lost all unsaved work.

People in those regions were reporting issues related to how their Galaxy S23 devices freeze when scrolling through Instagram, especially when watching reels (short videos). Such devices would freeze, then restart abruptly after about 1 to 2 minutes. The issue was raised to Samsung Members Community by many people, including the following posts:

Some reports claim that the issue started as early as three days ago, and the latest version of Instagram that is on the Play Store at the time of the incident is 374.0.0.43.67. People tried various solutions, such as checking for Instagram updates and reinstalling it, but the problem persisted.

We speculate that it may be because there is some kind of bug in either the security update itself or the latest version of Instagram. We are hoping for the latter, but, given the nature of the issue, it looks like that the affected phones were suffering from “kernel panic” issues when scrolling reels. When an Android phone gets a “kernel panic,” it typically freezes for 1 to 2 minutes before rebooting.

We recommend that you hold off watching Instagram reels for now until either a software update (One UI 7) or an Instagram update gets released, which should hopefully resolve this issue.

Your Galaxy Watch7 is about to get an update soon!

Samsung is currently working on an update that will incorporate general improvements to your smartwatch after the One UI 6.0 update released in November 2024 for Galaxy Watch6 and older, and in July 2024 for Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra.

Alongside the One UI 7 release schedule for Canada that is unveiled by Telus in their official forums, the same update will arrive to the following smartwatches on April 15th:

  • Galaxy Watch7 (40mm and 44mm)
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra

Telus has listed the update as “Optimizations & Security Update,” which means that not only will your smartwatch be more stable, but it will also be more secure as it will bring the latest security patch to your watch.

For older smartwatches, such as the Watch6 and the Watch6 Classic, the same update will be rolled out to those watches in the coming days or weeks, so keep checking your watch for updates!

We anticipate that the beta program for the next One UI Watch could start in June, based on the previous beta release record.

To update your watch, follow these steps:

  • With your phone
    1. Open Galaxy Wearable
    2. Select your watch
    3. Open Watch settings
    4. Navigate to Software Update
    5. Tap Download and Install
    6. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
    7. Wait until the update gets downloaded and copied to your watch, then press Install
  • With your watch
    1. Open Settings
    2. Navigate to Software update
    3. Tap Download and Install
    4. Wait until the update shows up, then press Download
    5. Wait until it gets downloaded to your watch, then press Install

In an event that something went wrong with copying the update, disconnect your phone from your watch by turning Bluetooth off or by disconnecting it through Galaxy Wearable, then try again from your watch. Make sure to turn Wi-Fi on in your watch to download the update faster.

Make sure that both your phone and your watch are charged before performing the update, and that your internet connection is stable. Never interrupt the update process, or there could be problems later. The update process may take a few minutes to finish, and if it appears to be stuck, just wait for more minutes.

Google, could we get the ability to drag and drop icons and widgets to different home screen pages without it saying "no room on this home screen"? Think a little bit like how apple handles it - if you drag an icon or a widget to a filled up home screen, it just pushes the icons and widgets there to the next page over. Thank you.
