Die Weibchen der Gänsesäger brüten gerne in hochgelegenen Höhlen oder Halbhöhlen, mitunter an Kirchtürmen. Die Küken sind Nestflüchter und praktizieren den Kükensprung. Wenn die Kleinen herunterspringen, wirkt es, als ob sie mit den kleinen Stummelflügelchen bremsen wollten. Da sie aber ein so geringes Gewicht haben und der Federflaum bremsend wirkt, kommen sie in der Regel mit weicher Landung unten an.

I have been somewhat disappointed with my recent photos, so I have not been interested in picking up my camera for a while. But today I showed those thoughts (and myself) the door and went for a walk. I'm glad I did! Look who I found almost immediately running back and forth on a path :) The white wagtail cheered me up quite a lot and I started to "see" photos again: buildings, birdwatchers, lesser spotted woodpeckers, common mergansers, fresh bird cherry leaves, bumblebee queens and so on.

This season has been tough for shooting waterfowl. Since November I have been plagued by boaters, kayakers, police, droughts, ice and mud like quicksand but didn’t give up. LOL. I got this shot of a Female Common Merganser on Tuesday and I really like it. I hope you do too!
