I mentioned that the mushroom I posted earlier was found at the base of a fallen pine. Here is said pine, having taken an oak tree with it at the same time. The oak is still rooted, and the barb wire fence has been partly absorbed by the oak trunk as it has grown, so I may be able to stand it up again as a fence post with appropriate lopping. Unfortunately, I'm not equipped to deal with the pine, so will have to get a tree surgeon in, or else convince the farmer on whose land it is now resting to chop it up for me.

Had a little excitement in our neighborhood today. During a rainy, very #windy storm, this maple tree across the street from our house split and fell in the street. A maple tree fell into the street from a yard across from my house. It completely blocks the street.

Crane to be brought in after huge tree falls on graves at Pontarddulais cemetery

Swansea Council said its parks team is working carefully to remove the tree, which was uprooted by high winds and is now lying across a section of the cemetery.

Smaller branches have already been cut away to reduce the weight of the trunk, but a crane is due on site to lift the main stem clear without causing further damage.

Cllr Cyril Anderson, Cabinet Member for Community, said:

“At the moment, the fallen tree is sitting across a number of headstones and is fairly stable. We are taking our time with the removal, so further damage is not caused. This means working methodically to avoid uncontrolled movement of the tree stem as well as consideration for the safety of our park operatives when working with such a large structure.

“We understand how distressing this may be for families, and we want to reassure them that we’re doing all we can. Once the tree has been removed we will be able to undertake a full assessment of any damage that has been caused and will contact those families affected by this incident.”

The cemetery remains open to the public, but visitors are being asked to avoid the affected area until the tree has been lifted clear.

Ducks enjoying the autumn sun on a tree that has fallen into a lake. Yellow and orange leaves are framing the photo. Lake water is still so it reflects the ducks and tree branches above the water.

BIG TREE fell in the road yesterday. Lusha is unimpressed.

It's one of the big 300yr old beech trees that line the Old Road by the river - a lot of them are dying / been cut down for safety last year.

This one looked OK, but was obviously rotten inside.
