Hatte heut auch ein bissl Nervenkitzel.
Hab nun endgültig meine alte LinuxMint Partition gelöscht... da ich mittlerweile fest zu Fedora gewechselt bin.
Und mit #GParted da Partitions löschen, rumschieben, vergrößern, usw... macht mir auch immer ein bissl Puls. 😉
I guess I f'd up when I installed my #rhel8 #vm to replace the #rhel7 one I had for myself at work. /boot couldn't install the latest kernel since it was too large. Even after deleting the only other kernel aside from the latest I was running off of, it was 19MB short.
Looking into it, the consensus was a lot of fearmongering about not touching it and just reinstall the OS. Yeesh. Sure, just do it again and get all my settings together again, no problem.
*DISCLAIMER*: Maybe don't do this unless you are willing to burn your system and start over from scratch (or better yet, reload your snapshot/backup you took before you did this, amirite?)
I just said "f it" and downloaded a #gparted live cd, popped it in the VM after adding 1GB (yeah, I know, overkill for /boot) to storage, then dragged that partition over that unallocated space. #vmware #rhel #linux #sysadmin #sysadminlife #sysadminproblems

fucking hell lmao I cancelled it on #KDE Partition Manager cos I’m afraid not only was it taking too long but that it would actually ruin my brand new drive - after reading some ppl’s recs to use #Gparted instead, the whole thing was done in 1.5 minutes, when KDE PartMan was taking almost 4 hours and it was still stuck at 0%.
I’ve always recommended KDE PartMan but GParted is def the way to go moving onwards. One advantage the latter has that I really appreciate is that it’s def a lot more transparent abt its progress and the exact commands/operations it’s running - compared to the former. I feel like that alone makes it more trustworthy/encouraging, for an app as critical as a partition editor.
The way I normally do this sort of thing previously is through KDE Partition Manager. I did this yest - it took forever but it was successful. That was me basically exporting the partition table of the source SSD, and importing it on the target SSD, then copying each source partition over to their corresponding target partition.
Now though, after finishing that, I used the Resize/Move feature on Partition Manager to grow the BTRFS partition from ~1TB to ~2TB by taking up the rest of the previously unallocated space (after the cloning was done). I don’t think I’ve done this before, with BTRFS drives, on KDE Partition Manager so I’m not sure if it’s even the right tool to do this but it’s been over 3 hours and the ‘progress dialog’ shows no details whatsoever and the progress percentage is still sitting at 0.
Should I cancel it, not knowing if it’s actually doing anything? Other than see that Btrfs is using 6% of my CPU in this live desktop session on the System Monitor.

edit: saw in the terminal that the process it’s ‘stuck’ at is:
/usr/bin/btrfs check —repair /dev/nvme0n1p2@venande mach mal ein Kommandozeilenfenster auf (Ctrl+T) und gib
df -h
ein. Danach
inxi -Fz
und kopiere das Angezeigte hier rein.
Zeigt Dir gparted irgendeine Fehlermeldung auf /dev/sda?
Ist es ein BIOS- (MBR zerschossen?) oder ein UEFI-Rechner (efi-Partition kaputt?)?

#gparted is almost like a gambling game to me. "How many GBs can I make it shrink a partition at once before it says 'too much!' and throws an error at me?"
I'm still slowly killing #windows10 on my #gpdwinmax to hopefully replace it fully with #bazzite. Apparently, trying to feed it another ~90GBs thru #gparted makes it choke, so I had to do the resizing in chunks. It has been done, though. Now I have more room on the #linux side to try to install and test more games I can then burn off the #windows side.

Dúvida sobre formatação de mídias
Gente, nos últimos meses tenho usado o #GParted para formatar minhas mídias de arquivos e ele tem matado todas. Estou com um saldo de dois pendrives e um HD inutilizados.
Uso um aplicativo CLI para formatar pendrives, por terminal, que funciona maravilhosamente, mas não tentei ainda com HDs e SSDs.
Alguém tem ideia do que posso utilizar?

Parece un #tutorial muy extenso y muy bien elaborado, gracias por el dato.
Nota punto y aparte:
Por ahi mas arriba habia una recomendacion de un programa WIN para crear el USB. Mencionaste que usaste otro. El #USB persistente que me funciono lo habia hecho con una instalacion Linux cin un programa #linux especifio para crear USB's inlcuyendo USB's persistentes.
Despues como que no me anduvo en la segunda ocasion, pero ademas tenia en realidad una .ISO que estaba mal asi que no se lo que en realidad era el problema.
Si se que ahi y esta la prueba que se puede hacer esto con un programa y un paar de clicks no mas.
This was not planned for this weekend, but having to reboot my #homelab main machine, I decided to upgrade the installed #debian from bookwork to trixie.
Reading the known issues made me resize the /boot partition before said upgrade. Thanks to the #gparted live CD and my #jetkvm I did it remotely without any issue.
The upgrade after that was also smooth. My only issue was to get my #Windows10 VM to boot, but even that was solved, by pointing to the correct #ovmf file.
If you're one of those idiots who partitioned their #Manjaro / #Linux wrong enough, you suck at least as hard as i! 😅
I might be able to resize / move my partitions around. #KDEPartitionManager / #PartedMagic / #Gparted.
I'd have to shrink my #btrfs SteamLibrary, which doesn't support shrinking - NAS backup+restore via 10GbE.
but you get to pass-through USB sticks to test VMs 🍻🤣👍 ..pretty neat ..you can plug the stick into other machines, and just boot it
A few weeks back I found these SATA laptop drives in a dumpster behind a once abandoned third party apple repair store. I finally got around to using #gparted to wipe all of the drives so that I could use them. Here's a photo of the drives I found and wiped
