The history of thought has long been dominated by a tension between the deterministic rigidity of the genotype and the fluid adaptability of the phenotype. For much of the 20th century, the Modern Synthesis emphasized the primacy of mutation and natural selection, often relegating influence to a mere background filter against which were selected. However. . .

"We gotta take on, like, duties for one another, ya know?" #nitw

Suddenly I am reminded of Charles Williams and his elusive concept of co-inherence, which has always made a lot of sense to me in a way that doesn't actually make a lot of sense. I have a very vague idea of why the concept seems like such an apt one.

Partly it's the likeness of the notion of co-inherence with natural forces which tend to bind all molecules, all bits of matter to one another. Because of the fundamental uncertainty of the distribution of electric charge around a molecule, any molecule, there's a small probability that a molecule will have a dipole moment at any given moment of time. Therefore, all substances will tend to have a kind of transient, baseline level of electromagnetic cohesion.

We are all of the same matter, the same mortal substance, and therefore we all have some degree of intrinsic bond with each other, a baseline similarity. We are all made of matter. We all have physical properties in common with each other. We all have a similar biochemistry, a similar range of environmental constraints. All human beings are alike in ways that have nothing to do with #genetics, which ignorant #technology culture has imbued with supernatural powers.

It's just not that important, boys. #Genes. They reaaally aren't the key to human existence. They're not a human being's "program", their lines of code, even if "code" is a word applied to nucleic acids.

We are the quintessence of dust. All of us have THAT much in common. How much more pleasant a world it would be if we could all start acting like it.
