Let's talk about #LUFS ("Loudness Units Relative to Full Scale")!
-10 seems to be pretty loud. And -14 seems way quiet but is suggested by those dipshits, Spotify, I believe. "-16 to -20" is what the "Audio Engineering Society" says.
I am mastering my latest album and trying to understand, but don't yet. Experimentation phase so far. Any thoughts? Why isn't there a "one size fits all"?

:amariokartyoshi:
On no va ave norma. Nos va reveni a paje zero. :akkoshrug:
RMS measures average audio levels moment to moment, while LUFS measures perceived loudness, accounting for human hearing sensitivity to different frequencies. Understanding these distinctions is crucial in audio mastering and production. #audioengineering #RMS #LUFS
#AudioFAQ: #RMS specifies the average volume per second, while #LUFS average perceived loudness levels over time. RM Swallows lets you capture short-term peaks accurately, but #LoudnessUnitsFullScale helps maintain overall levels consistency for broadcasting and streaming. #AudioInfo

Pleasingly and unintentionally, this afternoon's listening was almost compliant 😁 #LUFS

#loudness #normalization according to #EBU #R128. You can set an #integrated #loudness #target, a #loudness #range #target, or #maximum true #peak. This is #recommended for #publishing #audio and #video and it is #used by #broadcaster(s) all over the world.

LUFS - Wie laut sollte euer Track gemastert sein?
Wie laut sollte man seinen Track Mixen, bzw. Mastern?
Wie misst man das?
Was bedeutet Lufs und wieviele davon braucht man?
All diese fragen klären wir in diesem Video, viel Spass!

Contemplating my #mastering workflow for this project now that I've begun working on individual tracks. Because they're mostly solo recordings of banjos with the same pitch range and timbre, I've been able to get away with a reusable #auria project template that has EQ and a little reverb preconfigured on a track.
Having snapped up #fabfilter Pro-L2 on sale yesterday, I'm now much better-equipped to master tracks right in Auria... I know prevailing old-school workflow is "get your final mixdowns into a single project, and limit/eq/tweak each song until it sounds cohesive with the rest of them," but I'm not sure that's necessary given the nature of my tracks.
I'm thinking I can probably get away with the #mixing I'm already doing on the solo banjo tracks, and use Pro-L2 on the project Master track to target the same #LUFS (holy smokes is the Loudness metering mode in Pro-L2 nice), and get everything sounding pretty consistent. Easy enough to tweak and re-mixdown individual tracks as needed. #audio
Do we have an open-source plug-in that can do this? :)
