Anyone looking for a free open-source solution for procedurally creating materials, textures, sprite sheets, etc. should definitely check out Material Maker.

Showing a node tree for a procedural Material setup in Material Maker

I worked a lot in #MaterialMaker recently and decided to try some materials and grunges out I created there, using them for a texturing experiment with the #Blender #Ucupaint plugin as an alternative to #substance3d.

I ended up creating 2 versions, a regular one and one using tilables and a special overlay mask #shader created in #Godot (Inspired by an unreal shader I use at work)

#b3d #godotengine #texture #TechArt

an original unique textured versionand one using tilables and overlay mask shaderoriginally developed as visual shader, but this got too messy, so I had to use group uniforms in the endtexturing in blender with the ucupaint plugin

I got another video up, first I am sharing some #tips and #tricks for #MaterialMaker (though apply mostly to substance designer as well)

and then the second part is a #timelapse of the realistic rusty peeling paint material as well.

The final texture is in CXOY channel-packing layout. One texture merging curvature, normal and AO parameters.

I finished this #realistic rusty peeling #paint #material in #materialmaker

This was a long process again, the main idea was to create some grunges and a peeling paint mask generator, which I turned into this material in the end.

I have also recorded my work again, so in roughly 1-2 weeks I will prepare and release a timelapse again.

The buffer iteration 'trick' I also used for creating this #lava #material, and not just once or twice ( I actually haven't counted how many buffer iteration nodes I used 😆 ), but I used them a lot to get this lava #flowing effect.

This is part of the actual development process. While I didn't record it from the beginning, I still went over most parts after I started to record, and so it is also kind of a #breakdown as well.

I recently created this rock #texture in #MaterialMaker and wanted to share a short #breakdown, how I did it.
Many techniques I used here I saw in a tutorial to create rocky cliffs in substance designer, where I had to find my own ways to get something similar in material maker.

For one trick I could get similar results using the buffer iteration nodes, the shadows node I had to create myself.

And finally I created a rock grunge I added to it as well.

I am playing with shaders in #godot again, from the updated #lava #shader, to a #water shader up to a prototype of a bubbling 🫧🫧🫧 #slime shader, with textures made with #materialMaker

I have been doing some textures with material maker recently, testing them in #godot with the #terrain plugin, how they look there.

So far I made this strata rock #texture, and then the #crystal moss / grass texture. More textures are planned already.

@Noyesster to my knowledge there is none, but you can probably work things out with #blender texture paint and combine with #krita / #gimp and #materialmaker to get nice results ...
when you get free, you "lose" some perks, but you find ways around as you discover how to combine things (interoperable) in creative and longstanding ways ;)

Material Maker 1.4 is finally out!

THE open-source node-based procedural texture, material, flipbook and shader authoring tool is here!

Leave Adobe's golden cage!

#MaterialMaker 1.4 (#GodotEngine based PBR material authoring and 3D model texturing tool) is now available on @itchio .
It is based on Godot 4, had a huge UI redesign and has quite a few new nodes.
Thanks a lot to williamchange, Jowan-Spooner, NotArme, Theaninova and everyone else who contributed to this release.

📚️ Material Maker is a libre, multi-platform tool for creating procedural PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials (allows you to add relief/fine texture to a basic model via texture "painting"), based on the Godot engine. Materials are defined as graphics where nodes create or transform textures, and can then be exported to Godot, Unity or Unreal engines. It can also be used to create several types of materials, and new custom material types, as well as new export targets for existing materials, can be added if needed.
