finally got a chance to see the remodel of the #abq #sunport which brought some nice improvements to the small airport.

but also very excited to see the #art of my friend #cactuseddie on display - a wall #painting of a #cactus that was saved from a remodel of a downtown #brewery . i like that it still has the electrical outlet in place.

New #nativeart. Calling this one fury. Thinking a lot about my ancestors who burned Columbus’ ships in 1502. This face appeared. So I had to paint her.

This is my awesome Indigenous sister-friend, Jada. We met through LifeCycles & connected super well. She's the woman who has invited me to learn hands on hide processing. Jada is a talented artist, she creates a variety of #handmade #NativeArt & #NativeCrafts - you can see her work under Prickly Pear Nation Studio on IG (I don't post IG links here).
Jada is also a local educator.
Both of us are huge on food security, food equity, land back, decolonization, diversifying communities & sharing cultural teachings. We are friends & comrades.

A two-panel image showing an Indigenous woman in a kitchen setting and another of her outside. Left panel: Woman wearing glasses and a necklace, holding a ladle over a glass measuring cup, wearing a black t-shirt with a floral design. Right panel: Woman wearing a straw hat, smiling and holding a white tote bag with stamped images of fruit, the word "ORCHARD" and "BAG," and the words "desert king Fig", "I love Welland Orchard" and "Coastal Sage".

Day 3: Bug (Chósh in Diné word)

“Aoo’ yá’át’ééh k’aalógii.”- “Yes hello butterfly.”

Not all bugs are bad nor disgusting creatures towards navajo people, and especially for the first world in their mythology as presented as social animals and spiritual beings in this culture.

Dziś rocznica urodzin Pablity Velarde (1918–2006), artystki Santa Clara Pueblo i jednej z pierwszych profesjonalnych malarek rdzennoamerykańskich. Utrwalała życie swojego ludu w technice tempery piaskowej i gwaszu. Jej prace są w kolekcjach m. in. Smithsonian. (fot. Wikipedia)

"Desert Dream"
Teableau for 09/10/25

Sometimes, the hottest, driest place can reveal Nature's softest, gentlest colors. It's a little like how the biggest, gruffest character can have a marshmallow for a heart. Incongruities that belong together.

Tea tableau of an arid landscape done in soft, gentle tones of sand, fawn, terra cotta, dusky purple, and sky blue. There is a painting of a desert sky vista, a Native design earthen pot holding a cactus flower, a geometric patterned mat, a small adobe house, a silk moire tea cozy, and Pomegranate Lemon black tea.

This fall, Nova #ArtsHub will be hosting a special training for curators, art organizers, etc, designed to support non-indigenous community members in developing curatorial skills grounded in equity and #Indigenous methodology. Originally planned for July 1 ala Angeline Boulley Day, here is some fan art I made to commemorate my cousin's 1st book #FirekeepersDaughter as I imagined the main characters would look like with my art style. Enjoy!

#Art #IndigenousArt #IndigiArt #NativeArt #Indigenous

Digital art by Danilynn Jiibay (2025). A visual depiction of the three main characters and aesthetics from Angeline Boulley's debut novel. Firekeeper's Daughter

Characters from left to right: Jaime (dress shirt and pants while looking west and upward; Daanis (green shirt while holding tobacco and wearing a medicine pouch necklace); Lily (red shirt and grey pants while looking east and upward).

Other aesthetics: Background is dark blue with emblem designs based on the first book's design aesthetics. Foreground are the fires reminiscent of said book cover.
