Out doing some pruning and prepping of garden beds today. I had to clean last year's roots off of the olla I use for the peppers.
I wanted to take a picture of the olla before and after, but I only thought of it when my hands were all wet with dirt and roots. It would have been a fun picture though, really!

Am Tag des Wassers, heute nämlich: noch einmal ein Bild der selbstgezimmerten #Olla.
Selbst Baumärkte haben sie inzwischen im Angebot. Aber mir immer noch zu teuer. Deshalb habe ich gestern noch mal Material für mehr Ollas gekauft.
Für das Modell hier braucht ihr:
• 1 größeren Tontopf,
• 2 kleinere von gleicher Größe,
• 1 glatte Scherbe (Kachel z.B.) zum Verschließen des Loches beim größeren Topf,
• Zement, Fliesenkleber o.ä.
• und 1 passenden Deckel für den oberen Topf.
Den kann man auch mit Wasser befüllen als Insektentränke.
Ich setze sie so tief wie ich in den Boden komme ein.
Kleiner Modelle sind z.B. auch für Hochbeete geeignet.
Die Idee der Olla: Das eingefüllt Wasser sickert langsam in den Umgebungsboden ein.

Stucco sealing the end of a clay pipe as a makeshift Olla seems to be working. Still has water in it 8 hours later. These are not supposed to water plants, but slowly release moisture into soil, especially in desert/heat conditions. #gardening #Olla
I'm stucco on you. (Had leftover stucco from a stucco repair on the house, and figured out I could use it to seal off the end of this clay pipe to use as an Olla for the garden). Will hopefully work better than my prior solution (clay saucer glued on bottom with Gorilla glue). #gardening #Olla
@artemis @potterybyosa I'm in Canberra and I use this method in my vege patch. I have two terracotta pots joined at the rim with Silicone and I've sealed the hole in the bottom of one. I place a piece of PVC pipe on the top to form a bit of a neck to keep any mulch out, but that isn't actually joined to the pots. You can place stones over the top of them to stop slugs and insects getting in, but most of mine have home-made float valves which connect to a water reservoir. I fill the reservoir when it needs it and the float valves regulate the level of water in the ollas. The plants love it. #olla #gardening #CanberraGarden

Um #Dürrezeiten im #Sommer im #Garten besser begegnen zu können, ist die DIY-Olla eine Möglichkeit der #Bewässerung. Das unterste Abflussloch wir mittels Zement und einer flachen Scherbe verschlossen. Das Wasser, das in den obersten Topf gegossen wird, diffundiert langsam durch die Tonwand und wässert die Umgebung.
Das Gebilde wird mindestens so tief wie der unterste Topf ist, in den #Boden gesetzt.
Eine Tonschale - gleichzeitig kleine #Tränke - deckt den obersten Ollateil ab.
