Do you also have either an extra m.2 slot, or a 1x pcie slot (plus an m.2 to pcie 1x adaptor for about $5) on your motherboard? The remaining 16GB #optane nvme cards arrived yesterday and I have them installed.

I was using the wrong 16x slot at first, so they weren't all showing.

Now the only question is how to combine all four into the most performant option.

I'm not at all concerned with data integrity at this point. I just want them to go fast.

At first it seemed like ZFS was the way to go, but there are dire warnings everywhere I look.

What's the nvme equivalent of #raid 0 striping across four devices?

Has anyone got experience with Intel Optane memory?

The hard drive on my HP laptop is a regular SSD with a smaller Intel Optane drive integrated into it. The Optane is where the OS (Windows 10) is installed and is used to quickly retrieve files from the SSD and so forth.

The Optane drive recently malfunctioned and became unreadable. The SSD portion (where all my files are stored) seems to be intact—at least, it's reading error free when I run a disk check. But with the optane malfunctioning, when I turn on the computer it tells me there is no operating system installed, so I have no way to access the "good" part of the harddrive.

From what I've read online, the only way to get the computer working again is to switch off Intel Optane and install a new operating system directly onto the SSD. But if I do this, the entire hard drive gets formatted, and I lose all of my files.

I'm not good with this stuff. Is there any way to recover my files? Unfortunately my backup system failed too and I've lost 6 months of art and academic work 😢

Obtained additional 2.5TB of NVDIMMs (5x 512GB Optane Series 200, for Ice Lake Xeons (LGA-4189))... the $/GB was too good to pass on, and these are new + shipping directly from Intel (not China hyperscaler decomms).

So... now begins the arduous task of comparative analysis for CPU SKUs and MB choices. Probably it makes sense to duplicate the existing Ice Lake build, but that's not as fun as obsessing over specs and possibilities.

Avec #ZFS le ZIL/SLOG se prend toutes les écritures (quasiment aucune lecture sauf crash), mais n'a pas besoin d'être volumineux.

J'ai opté pour des #Optane en #3DXpoint qui ont une endurance à l'écriture sans commune mesure avec la flash. On trouve des 16Go pour une dizaine d'euros... format M.2 en NVMe.

Ce n'est plus fabriqué, mais j'ai constitué un petit stock d'avance vu le prix ;)

#Intel #Optane (3D XPoint memory) is incredible. I tested out an Optane H20 hybrid drive (1TB QLC, 32GB Xpoint), and while the streaming performance of XPoint was just okay (~1.5 GB/~900 MB), the IOPS were insane! 14x more than my brand-new 2TB #Solidigm drive!

Though I ran into difficulty accessing both drives of the H20, I decided to go with a standalone Optane drive. Scored a pair of 16GB M10's on eBay for $12.

I ran some benchmarks on a pair of NVMe hard drives and wow, #Intel #Optane is incredible!

This 2TB #Solidigm Plus drive (#Hynix, formerly Intel) streams data really well, beating the 32GB Optane on the H20, but with small random read+write ops, Optane annihilates it with nearly 14x the IOPS!?

It's a darn shame that Intel discontinued X-point memory. This stuff is magic.

Well I finally got all the parts in the mail needed to #refurbish this #ThinkPad L490 machine. 🎉

Unfortunately it does feature a 720p TN panel (a dramatically improved TN panel I should say), and a flawed M.2 connector. It accepts a #PCIe 3.0x4 drive, but it actually drops 2 of the PCIe lanes. Ordinarily that would be fine, but the M.2 drive I'm using is an #Optane H20, which acts as a PCIe 3.0x2x2 device: 1TB NVMe drive on the first 2x lanes and a 32GB Optane on the 2nd 2x lanes. 🤔
