@bastetfurry @janet_catcus the only thing cooler would be if they did a #transparent version, but I also know why they didn't and instead chose said muted colour pallet: As those are easily sourceable, child-safe (if not medical- or food-grade), and available as recycling plastics. Also said colours don't directly show ABS's yellowing under sunlight that distinctively.
Keeping costs down, compared to the high prices of optically clear, non-discoloured plastic ehich also tends to be more brittle, and also may not be an option due to the way they pulled a "#ThinkPadnium" style metal reinforcement of the chassis, as they clearly worked out a mix of elastic deformation (TPU), lightweight flexing and stiffening is the way to make a machine that is more forgiving in terms of abuse without designing it to be an unwieldy, heavy industrial appliance.
So yeah, I do want to see @frameworkcomputer release the #Framework12 and maybe some compact #Desktop case that is essentially allowing to shove a Framework 12 or #Framework13 mainboard and keyboard in and have a low-footprint unit like the #RaspberryPi #Pi400 & #Pi500 units. Or just some case one can bolt onto #VESA mounts at a screen (similar to a #ThinkStation Tiny / #ThinkCentre Tiny) and use those for #Classrooms.
I hope they have some nice #Stylus slot & lanyard option similar to the #X230Tablet I still daily-drive today.
#WhatsMissing is an #Android-#ROM that is the equivalent of @tails_live / @tails / #Tails, which includes @torproject / #Tor and @guardianproject / #Orbot support from the get-go and forces everything through Tor (system-wide #Torification) if not only allows to connect to #OnionSedvices using #orWall...
- Because that would have a similar audience and really complement peoples' needs.
Ideally make it like an #image file to put on a #RaspberryPi #CM5 / #CM4 / #Pi400 / #Pi500 / #Pi4 / #Pi5 to work with a bunch of #WWAN modules for #data, #SMS & #calling (needed with some SIMs to get shit done)...
On the good-news/bad-news side, I got the #Pi400 running #yunohost and set-up two sub-domains on .local tld installing #friendica on one and #pixelfed on the other.
I can hit both services (locally) and get login screens for both but neither will permit a login or new account creation.
I think I have to set-up an email service, internally first, before new registrations will work so I'm going to detour and handle that instead.

So after a week of playing with my #Pi400 as a retroconsole, I've learned the following:
1) #Batocera is dodgy AF on this, Bluetooth controllers had issues, and permissions on directories were set oddly for copying over games.
B) Recalbox and RetroPi run mostly the same, but I suspect that the last release of #Recalbox (2024) benefits from some updates over #RetroPie (2022).
iii) MegaDuck is a funny name, and the file size of its rom set is TINY, but it will disappoint you.
Q4) The N64 runs ok on this hardware, but the USB controllers I bought get recognized as some kinda Wii thing and map weird. Getting them working is a pain. It is identified correctly and works fine on RetroArch on my laptop. (I don't care, but my wife LOVES the N64.)

I guess #Python tries to be the modern #BASIC and the #RaspberryPi #Pi400 tries to be the modern #ZXspectrum but even then the comparison falls flat because outside of #Linux distros, most OSes don't come with a preinstalled Python interpreter - espechally not #macOS & #Windows, so we don't get that cohesion.
#JavaScript and #WebDevelopment - espechally on the #FrontEnd - kinda went overly complex, thus #JS failed to become a mass-adopted languague outside of bloated "#WebApps" that literally ship a whole #Chromium (like #nwjs / https://nwjs.io ) and turn something that should've been measured in Kilobytes if maybe a few Megabytes into hundreds of Megabytes if not Gigabytes of #bloat to be shoved onto a device…
And whilst one can shim that down significantly by relying on #WebView as #API...

The abundance of computing resources like bandwith, storage, RAM and CPU sadly have resulted in increased #Enshittification, where things feel slower and less responsive than previous versions in spite of sometimes exponentially more resources at hand.
In many cases a lot if developments feel like regressions in terms of UI, UX and overall efficiency, and we see the digital equivalent of #SuperUselessVehicles being made...
That's not the fault of JS - a language isn't a sentient being nor being responsible for even existing - but ut's like introducing alcohol to someone who had never drank anything by giving them a double shot of Absynthé: It ruins it for them...
