Based on what I observe from family members living in Australia, and from my perspective as a Swiss citizen residing in Switzerland, purchasing power in Australia appears to be very low. The overall quality of life there seems significantly worse by comparison. When costs and standards are evaluated properly, there is little doubt that Switzerland offers better quality and greater value for money at lower overall prices than Australia.

Some quotes to remember from Corbin Trent (about the US Economy):

"Two full-time workers today have less purchasing power than a single worker did in 1950."

"Any politician promising affordability without a bold plan to shift power back to working people is full of shit."

"We need to reverse a 50-year transfer of $79 trillion from the bottom 90% to the top 1%"

The last graph in #GregJericho ‘s column in the Guardian is the interesting one — apart from the put down of #TimWilson, got a laugh from me on that one — that graph show the purchasing power of the average wage. It hasn’t yet recovered from the #Grifters led inflation as COVID hit hard and companies raped the economy by jacking up prices (thruth, plenty of evidence out there to support that view, greg did a couple of articles showing this quite clearly). So, the take away from the article is that if things do not change it will take a wage earner until 2044 before he can get back to the purchasing power he had in 2021. And economists have the gall to blame workers for the poor state of the economy and the low productivity (don’t get me going on the latter). Guess what numpties… if the workers have no money, they can’t buy your shit and the economic dunks… basic!

McDonald's CEO warns of 'a two-tier economy' as lower-income consumers spend less - Well, duh… We’re spending less cause it costs so much just to live in the #TrumpEconomy - High rents, soaring grocery bills, even energy costs are going up. High-end purchases, like homes and cars, have been on hold for a while, now even #FastFood is feeling the pinch. We are definitely headed toward a two-tier #economy just as the McDonald’s CEO suggests. And pretty soon… the bottom is going to come for the top. nbcnews.com/business/consumer/ #economics #USEconomy #PurchasingPower #CostOfLiving

Which nations have the highest and lowest minimum wages across Europe?

Millions of workers across the EU continue to earn minimum wage. The thresholds are intended to provide a basic standard of living for workers, although the levels have often failed to increase with inflation.

Euronews Business takes a close look at minimum wages across Europe, comparing both euro value and purchasing power.

In the fall of 1972, when campaigning for a second term in office, 🇺🇸 U.S. President Richard Nixon announced that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing, which has been noted as "the first time a sitting president used the third derivative to advance his case for reelection."

This means that the "jerk (3rd derivative)" of the price level is negative.

Equivalently, the "jerk" of purchasing power is positive.

In other words, the "acceleration" of inflation is negative.

\[I(t)=\alpha^2\dfrac{\mathrm dP(t)}{\mathrm dt}=-\beta^2\dfrac{\mathrm d\Pi(t)}{\mathrm dt}>0\]

\[\dfrac{\mathrm dI(t)}{\mathrm dt}=\alpha^2\dfrac{\mathrm d^2P(t)}{\mathrm dt^2}=-\beta^2\dfrac{\mathrm d^2\Pi(t)}{\mathrm dt^2}>0\]
\[\dfrac{\mathrm d^2I(t)}{\mathrm dt^2}=\alpha^2\dfrac{\mathrm d^3P(t)}{\mathrm dt^3}=-\beta^2\dfrac{\mathrm d^3\Pi(t)}{\mathrm dt^3}<0\]

where, \(I(t)\), \(P(t)\), and \(\Pi(t)\) are inflation (rate), price level (function), and purchasing power of money (or simply value of money) at time \(t\) respectively. And \(\alpha^2\) and \(\beta^2\) are positive real constants.
