I'm currently writing a master thesis where I will need to get some data on weather of different (mostly) European cities with some GPS coordinates for the last 5 years.

As this is a student project, I do not have much money to pay expensive API access to historical weather data.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Apropos of nothing, the WMO has a public-facing site that allows for daily monitoring of the international sharing of #weather data like pressure, wind and temperature. It indicates the percentage of data from individual weather stations that was received on the WMO data sharing systems.

Is today's weather unusual? This is something I ask frequently, but I don't have a good way of answering it. I can easily find the average and record temperatures, but that doesn't tell me too much. I am looking for a measure of how today's weather values compare to the expected distribution. It could be as simple as the average and standard deviation. Do you know of any tools that have this kind of information?
