Passed in an extraordinary sitting of Parliament just before Christmas, the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 represents one of the most far-reaching state security expansions in recent years.
Under the new law, the display of a symbol belonging to a “prohibited terrorist organization” can now lead to a prison term of up to two years.
Police officers are also granted authority to order individuals to remove face coverings if they are attending a demonstration or public event and the officer “reasonably suspects” they may commit an offense.

Zur Erinnerung - nicht nur für alle, die im Gleichklang mit den Autokraten Zensur brüllen: Die #Meinungsfreiheit war in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland noch nie ein schrankenloses Recht. Zusammen mit anderen Rechten wie z.B. der Pressefreiheit bekommt sie in Art. 5 Abs. 2 klare Grenzen gesetzt:
"(2) Diese Rechte finden ihre Schranken in den Vorschriften der allgemeinen Gesetze, den gesetzlichen Bestimmungen zum Schutze der Jugend und in dem Recht der persönlichen Ehre."
kritisch. Die Entscheidung der Trump-Administration kann man wie bei vielen Behauptungen als Externer ohne tieferen Einblick kaum überprüfen. Sicher ist aber: Hateaid war auch aktiv in Fällen, die #Hatespeech betreffen auf X - und die Plattform gehört ja bekanntlich dem Trump-Bekannten Elon #Musk.
