#TreeTuesday! Just barely!:
- This big old oak by the main road, eerily deserted for a moment on a Sunday bike ride, in November.
- The crinkly leaf carpet, below.
- Looking out from inside the tree tunnel (left of first pic).

Description by Gemini Fast: A vertical image of a wide, curving asphalt road bordered by a green grass verge and a line of mature trees. A massive Oak tree (Quercus species), with a full, rounded canopy of dark green and gold-tipped leaves, dominates the upper right. The road is clear of traffic, and the lighting suggests a calm late afternoon or evening.Description by Gemini Fast: A close-up, vertical shot focused on a curved pathway completely covered in fallen autumn leaves, illuminated by bright, low sunlight. The leaves are a mix of russet brown, dark copper, and bright yellow. A dark green, leafy hedge runs along the top-left edge, catching the light and creating a striking contrast with the shadowy path.Description by Gemini Fast: A view of a winding, two-lane road at dusk or dawn, dramatically framed by dark, silhouetted trees and roadside foliage. The road curves into the distance where a burst of brilliant white sunlight breaks through the canopy, heavily backlighting a line of four cars, two of which have visible brake lights. The foreground of the road is dark, highlighting the double white dividing lines.

#TreeTuesday - a silly sentimental one for our Salix (Puzzle Willow?) tree which got pollarded last Friday (should be OK, heh)...

It's been my shade & shelter, out back, for years. Rarely drooping surprises as I bloomscroll posted on laptop (after dusk).
DailyNaturePics 223

Description by Gemini Fast: A tall, multi-trunked tree that has been severely pollarded, resulting in a massive, gnarled, and knobby main trunk with thick, newly cut limbs on top. The rough bark is a dark brown. The tree is in a residential garden, set against a dark wooden fence, with a shrub bearing small red berries on the left, and a house roof with solar panels in the background under a pale winter sky.Description by Gemini Fast: A vertical, sun-drenched close-up of a few small, rounded leaves, possibly from a Poplar or Aspen, hanging from a thin branch. The leaves are fully yellow, indicating late autumn. Sunlight filters through the leaves, illuminating them brightly and creating a warm, soft-focus bokeh background of blurred yellow and green.Description by Gemini Fast: A vertical photo focusing on two dull green and brown leaves resting on the geometric metal grating of a dark bench. The background is a soft, shallow depth-of-field blur of a ground covered entirely in scattered, fallen autumn leaves in shades of green, brown, and yellow. The contrast highlights the texture and form of the foreground leaves and the bench.Description by Gemini Fast: A creative close-up of a large, pale brown autumn leaf resting directly on a laptop keyboard. The leaf is translucent, and the blue backlight from the keys, particularly the square keys in the center, shines through the leaf veins and tissue, creating a ghostly, grid-like pattern on the surface. Keys like 'M', 'Ctrl', and 'PgUp' are visible.

#TreeTuesday, or an early #WoodWednesday? SLR Railway ride 3:
- Gloriously gnarled old Black poplar(?) looks like a perfect nesting hole!
- Younger trunk, but you can feel that rough texture! Sorry, no ID.
- This one's seen some violence.
#MEcfsEgress DailyNaturePics 216

Description by Gemini Fast: A close-up photograph of rough, textured tree bark illuminated by warm, golden sunlight from the right. The bark is a mix of brown, gray, and dark green colors, covered in deep fissures and cracks. Prominently visible are two areas where the bark forms distinct, swirling, target-like concentric ring patterns, characteristic of either healed wounds or small branches that have been covered over, known as branch collars or knots. The background is a soft, dark blur of out-of-focus woods (bokeh), which makes the illuminated bark stand out sharply.Description by Gemini Fast: A close-up photograph of the smooth, cylindrical trunk of a young tree, strongly illuminated by warm, golden light coming from the right. The bark has a distinctive, vibrant yellow-green or lime-green hue. Scattered across the surface are several patches of pale, crustose lichen (likely species from the genus Lecanora or Parmelia), appearing as flat, irregular white to pale gray-green spots. The bark also shows a small, healing wound or knot on the left and a few minor vertical scratches. The background is dark and out of focus, suggesting a deep shadow or another tree trunk further back.

I love the ancient oaks of Sherwood Forest. This one is not far from the Major Oak and is itself a few hundred years old.
This painting is available from The Haarlem Shop on Wirksworth high street, Derbyshire.

A woman with purple hair holds a painting of a twisty 500 year old Oak Tree painted in earth pigments. Behind the woman is a gallery wall to the left and a bunch of dried flowers to the right.

I got out Sunday to photograph muted late autumn colors in the light rain. I made this image just moments before a lightning strike came out of nowhere and almost made me have to change my underwear. 😅

Tangle of bare, twisting tree branches dotted with curled orange-brown leaves, centered on a dense cluster of brighter autumn foliage; soft, muted forest background out of focus, giving a moody late-fall feel.

#TreeTuesday - mid-October sunny SLR ride evergreens!:
- Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei), seems unlikely in our clime.
- Monkey puzzle, neater than ours.
- Satisfying join of 3 ornamental conifers.
- Pine (Pinus) offering a needled hand..?
#MEcfsEgress DailyNaturePics 209

Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A tall Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) towers over a neatly trimmed, cone-shaped evergreen bush. The palm features a hairy, fibrous trunk and a canopy of large, fan-shaped fronds, with drooping clusters of yellow flowers visible among the leaves.Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: The crown of a Monkey Puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana) stands out against a clear, bright blue sky. The distinctive, upward-curving branches are densely covered in sharp, triangular, scale-like leaves, creating a spiky, geometric silhouette.Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A vertical, textural shot comparing the foliage of two different ornamental conifers. On the left, the foliage is a cool, blue-green color, while the shrub on the right displays vibrant, golden-yellow scale-like leaves. A darker green shrub is visible at the very bottom.Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A low-angle view of the branches of a Pine tree, reaching diagonally across the frame against a pale blue sky with wispy clouds. The branches are covered in long, grey-green needles and dotted with small, brown pine cones.

I stumbled across this absolute beast of a tree a while back and wasn't sure if I could find it on a return visit with a TLR. Glad I did. Look at it! Such a beauty.

(, Ilford Ortho 80 in Rodinal)

A black and white photo of a beautiful sprawling tree - a good strong photo forks out in all directions, and there's a nice glow between each thick sub-trunk (they feel too thick to be called "branches"...)

SLR shot... Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A close-up, sunlit photograph of oak leaves on a branch. The leaves are in mid-transition for autumn, showing a mottled pattern of bright green and golden-orange, with some small brown spots. The background is softly blurred.SLR shot...Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A close-up, vertical photograph focusing on the deeply furrowed, rough bark of a mature tree, likely an oak. The gray-brown bark has intricate vertical cracks. To the left, the background is blurred, showing the bright, golden light of the setting sun shining through the woods.Phone pic, wide angle lens... Description by Gemini 2.5 Pro: A vertical, low-angle view looking up a woodland path in autumn. The path is completely covered in a carpet of fallen brown leaves. Tall deciduous trees with thinning canopies of green, yellow, and gold line the path, reaching up towards a pale blue sky. The scene is illuminated by the warm, golden light of late afternoon.
