I pay attention. Even when I don't always call out every self committed ableist here on the #Fediverse. I am closely watching, making notes of who refuses to be less ableist. I'm not the only disabled advocate here - paying attention.
I'm very aware of many unrepentant #ableists here.
People who refuse to consult with & listen to valid, lived experienced voices from #PeopleWithDisabilities are folks committed to their #ableism. Straight up.
Don't make excuses for #ableists who don't care about #DisabledPeople & don't want to make any changes to contribute to a more diverse & #accessible world/community.
#Ableists are insensitive jerks, lacking humane compassion & who forget that they're not immune to becoming #disabled too. No one has that lifelong immunity.
Treat #PeopleWithDisabilities better or expect us to keep raising a lot of ruckus.
We're fighting for our human rights, for equity & for inclusion. We won't shut up until you all do better.

I have had men literally tell me - to my face - that they want to experience what it's like with a disabled Asian woman. WTAF. I'm not Disneyland. Neither are ANY other disabled people.
@voxofgod the Commonwealth doesn't want the USA, that's not going to happen. Also, I'm kinda of getting the impression you think it's a bit like the EU? Commonwealth is basically just the old British colonies kinda maintaining some cultural (and sometimes head of state) ties after independence. In practice it just means some countries like Canada and Australia still have the UK monarch as a powerless head of state. We don't get freedom of movement like the EU gets. I don't think we even get special visa conditions.
In practical terms, being a member of the Commonwealth means your country gets to take part in the Commonwealth games. And maybe extra diplomatic help in other Commonwealth countries if you don't have an embassy there. Um. That's it afaik 😅
Btw New Zealand is not disability friendly for immigration. There was a big story a few years ago where a British man was offered a high paying job there and was told he can take his wife and older child, but his disabled daughter was not given residency.

Developers say this could add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of new homes because they will all require bigger rooms, lower outlets and various changes in washrooms.
Tom Davidoff, associate professor of business at the University of British Columbia told Global News that if accessibility for everyone is not mandated, it is certainly possible that builders would provide almost no accessible units.
