We recently found out that libid3tag is now packaged in Debian testing! Hooray! 🎉
We consider this a major advancement since quite a few distros are based on Debian. This will help with development as more and more programs will end up using our fork, so we can work with them and improve the library like never before! 😄
Thing 1.
In my Sunroom, on my #ONT ["old new tower" pc, a bit of an old i7/HDD clunker i acquired from dad several years ago when i bought him a much better tower for his shitty win10 crap, & which over intervening periods i've fetched out of the cupboard, whacked various penguins on it, but had no real use-case for it so always re-cupboarded it, til recently when had the idea to move a spare desk from my Study into my Sunroom, & thereat use ONT as a general browsing pooter during the chilly winter morns when my Study (whence my proper pooter is) is too icy (have i now contravened some law about excessive parenthesisation?)].
Having t'other day bunged its latest penguin on it, being #SparkyLinux (#DebianTesting) #Xfce, & yesterday managed to get the lovely new #ZenBrowser on it, this morn i realised i miss the comforting availability of either useful desktop system into widgets (Xfce has none, alas, unlike the fabulous #KDEPlasma on my "proper" #ArchLinux pooter in said Study) or my carefully curated & finessed Conkies on said pooter, i decided to see if the Sparky repos offered any interesting #Conky goodness... & yes they do. So after installing, a pleasant 42' was spent tweaking & finagling the proprietary Sparky Conky config file to get the aesthetics & content of the resultant desktop Conky to be... just so.
You certainly cannot take me to parties... no real peeps are interested in the pointless shit i do to pass the time, yet it brings me intellectual satisfaction & comfort, & stops me playing in the traffic. Weird, me.
Thing 2.
Twas time to make up another coupla batches of my #Muesli, so i sallied forth to the kitchen for The Doings. It'll last me another few weeks, as usual. Tis nothing special, nothing clever, just a good way to eat yummy muesli at brekkie sans all the bloody extra sugars & fats in so many of the commercial ones... so: rolled oats, raw buckwheat, shredded coconut, dried pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried mixed fruit.
Bloody hell i certainly #LiveLifeLarge 🙄🤦♀️
Damn...
Kernel 6.9.9 in Debian Testing generating a 250MB initrd.img :dragn_flushed:
(It seems like it's because of the new firmware-XX
package split, as removing most of them reduced the image back to 99MB).
Bro forgot to update 💀
Oh so THAT'S why Debian testing is such a mess right now...
Si vous avez installé Kali linux (ou toute distrib basée sur debian testing➡️ https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2024/msg00057.html ) ces derniers jours, il est important de relancer un

Upgrade done. Let's see what's broken. Glad to see: pipewire and friends aren't broken, though they were among the things upgraded. The bird and fox are same. Most of the upgrade looks like libraries. #DebianTesting #GNU #Linux #ComputerPlay Now, it's Supper Time. Let's find out what the Food Fairy brought me #today It's sitting on my counter top, awaiting consumption.
Ganzen Tag in VMs rumgespielt: #Ubuntu2004, #Ubuntu2204, #PopOs2204, #Fedora36, #Fedora38 und #debiantesting in einem Multi-Boot Setup von #Grub auf #SystemdBoot umgestellt. 🥵
Verschiedene Problemchen dabei angetroffen, bis es am Ende funktioniert hat 🫡
Am Ende voll confident mein Prod-System (F38) umgestellt.
Bootet 🥳
- Alles Grub zeugs entfernt
Just a heads up: Debian has removed python2 from Testing.
REF: https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/python/DebianNoMorePython2
@WinstonSmith: #XMMS2 is still in #Debian, just currently not in #DebianTesting, but in #Debian11 aka the current #DebianStable as well as in #DebianUnstable: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/xmms2
(Or doesn't XMMS2 have that #WinAmp UI anymore? Can't remember as I no more use #GUI music players anymore for quite some years. I just use an #xterm and the #CLI #mediaplayer #mpv. Also works for many video streaming portals.)

I’m searching. Other than #debian what other distro offers this?
* The most software (including 3rd party repositories)
* Independent—free of corporate influence
* Huge support community
* Excellent documentation
* Very flexible—can be minimal or full featured
* Numerous Desktop Environment choices
* Supports multiple chip architectures
* Between stable & bleeding edge (similar to #debiantesting)
* Dependable & requires little manual intervention (unlike #archlinux)
