PHEV sales are collapsing in key markets across 2025—and it’s no accident. Consumers, regulators, and automakers are all waking up to the fact that plug-in hybrids are a transitional dead-end. In Norway, PHEV sales fell off a cliff—just 51 units sold in April after a tax hike exposed how fragile demand really is. Denmark is following a similar path, with BEVs accounting for over 60% of new car sales while PHEVs quietly shrink in relevance. Even in China, where PHEVs were once gaining ground, BEVs are now outpacing them with cleaner tech, better charging infrastructure, and lower total cost of ownership.
