So, I mentioned a newspaper article about invasive #JapaneseStiltgrass to my hubby, which has appeared in Southern Maine recently, and wondered if we had some in our yard. He looked at some plants using the #FloraApp and they aren't stiltgrass, but #HairyCrabgrass -- which was used as a substitute for #Millet in Europe (especially #Poland) and is apparently quite #DroughtResistant. Very cool! I'll be encouraging that to grow!

"Quiroz and Gómez are seed-cleaning specialists and field workers at Hedgerow Farms, a native seed farm near the #CentralValley town of #WintersCA. Hedgerow’s collectors gather seeds from native plants in the wild, and field workers grow them out at the 300-acre farm to produce more seeds. This spring, neat rows of #mugwort, #PurpleNeedlegrass, and #CaliforniaPoppies sprouted in the midst of neighboring almond orchards, tomatoes, and alfalfa.

"Government agencies, tribes, and other land managers use the seeds to revegetate #FireRavagedAreas, transform #AbandonedFarmland, reestablish wetlands, and repair other damaged or altered lands, creating environments that support local #ecosystems and #biodiversity.

" 'We’re doing something for the planet,' Quiroz said in Spanish.

"Recreational areas have benefited too: Hedgerow Farms’ #SilverbushLupine grows in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and its #NativeGrasses can be found in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area outside Sacramento. The farm also supplies native seeds to seed packet retailers, helping sow #DroughtResistant plants and establish #pollinator habitat in #urban environments.

"Some projects, such as the ongoing restoration of the #KlamathRiverBasin in Oregon and California, involve billions of seeds — from various suppliers, including Hedgerow — spread across thousands of acres. 'Native vegetation is the foundation of a healthy #ecosystem,' the #YurokTribe said in a social media post showing #wildflowers blooming this spring in the scar of a former reservoir.

"After four dams were removed from the #KlamathRiver, the tribe began #revegetating the riverbanks last year, planting species such as #milkweed — a key food source for #MonarchButterflies — that once flourished in the watershed."

It grows on almost every continent. Very cold & drought resistant. Known as an excellent pioneer plant to rewild disturbed grounds. #PioneerPlants are plants that are often used to start many #rewilding efforts in areas where the soil isn't great & has suffered damages. It doesn't do too well in full shade. Very #ColdResistant & #DroughtResistant, once established - it's been found in mountain elevations to desert environments.

A good choice for a #ClimateActionGarden.

The seeds are edible & can be ground up into flour but they're too small for the effort. It's mainly used as animal #fodder & it attracts lots of #pollinators 👍

#CosmosBipinnatus has significant #antioxidant activity & protective effect against oxidative DNA damage. Cosmos bipinnatus & #CosmosSulphureus have properties protect liver; due to presence of #quercetin & #phenolic compounds.

#SulphurCosmos flower petals are edible & can be added to salads or cooked in various ways. Another raw #edible variety is #CosmosSaudatus aka #KingsSalad.

My #RoseCampions are blooming now.
Several plants are 3 feet tall. Once established, they're quite #DroughtResistant - also very #PestResistant & #DiseaseResistant.
If you have problems with deer or rodents eating your plants - this is a good choice as those wildlife leave rose campions alone.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

I will take credit for being a “master waterer” though because these little clover seeds were just planted on Tuesday and they have already begun to sprout. Made my heart sing!
