#Poetry #Fables The Turtles of three versifiers.
Jean de La Fontaine gave us a story of tortoise versus hare, in Le Lièvre et la Tortue. Three hundred and three years after the fabulist's death, Guy Wetmore Carryl published "Fables for the Frivolous," which included a clever, amusing retelling, "The persevering tortoise and the pretentious hare." Perhaps six-score years later, Billy Collins gave us his version, "My hero." (Not "My hare-o," though Collins does like to gently fun with us.) Collins too offers the tortoise as the winner--but on the poet's terms.

Current state of completion:

Added shading and environmental elements,
like grass, dirt, a few wooden posts,
and grapevines with unripened grapes.

Environmental shadows have also
been placed in the environment.
Leaves must now be added to the vines.

Viewed from the top down, a feral red fox unsuccessfully attempts to snap a perfectly ripened bunch of grapes from a vine above him in a vineyard. Two posts are visible behind him, with vines of unripe grapes growing along them. He (the fox) is standing in a dirt path that runs between the rows of vine poles. Aspect ratio: 16 wide by 9 tall. Full color. Character and grapes are drawn as lineart filled in with colors and shaded and highlighted. Grass was laid in with a brush designed by myself. The woodgrain on the posts is an asset downloaded from the Clip-Studio asset store. The dirt was another asset brush downloaded from the Clip-Studio asset store.

"The Fox In the Vineyard"
Source of the idiom "sour grapes":

something one desires, but claims to scorn, because it is just beyond attainability.
