I mentioned the other day that someone had sawn off and toppled this Little Free Library, but that it's back in place, repaired and painted.

Missed this earlier, but Pepper pointed out the inscription underneath.

At Sanford Middle School, Minneapolis.

Several months ago someone sawed off this Little Free Library, on the grounds of Maria Sanford Middle School in Minneapolis.

It's back, repaired and repainted, with a nice new logo on the side.

Wikipedia: Maria Louise Sanford (December 19, 1836 – April 21, 1920) was an American educator. She was a professor of history at Swarthmore College from 1871 to 1880 and a professor of rhetoric and elocution at the University of Minnesota from 1880 to 1909. …

Sanford was also a leader in the conservation and beautification program of her new state, including work with clubwoman Florence Elfelt Bramhall towards creating a forest preserve which became part of the Chippewa National Forest. U.S. Forest Service chief Gifford Pinchot later stated that "without the farsighted and patriotic support of the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs, it would have been impossible" to provide this wilderness conservation in Minnesota. …

Her death was headlined in Minneapolis Tribune and other newspapers. Sanford was called "the best loved woman of the North Star State."

A Little Free Library on the corner of the ground of Maria Sanford Middle School in the Longfellow neighborhood, near the river in south Minneapolis. It's been painted blue and black and the logo consists of a bird flying in front of the Sun. "Sanford Middle School." Metal angle pieces have repaired the wooden post which supports it.

I stumbled upon a handful of little free libraries or "ruilbibs" (swap libraries) in just 9 days in between the Anarchist Bookfair and a Lavender Witch mini-tour. Here are most of them (another one I saw from my band mate's car while we drove through a french village and I wasn't fast enough to take a picture). See my blogpost "a week in the life of a zinester": https://echopublishing.wordpress.com/2025/05/30/a-week-in-the-life-of-a-zinester-bookfair-little-free-libraries-lavender-witch-mini-tour/

An old clock painted yellow and repurposed as a free little library in front of a house with a bookbinding workplace. Text says: "I heart little free libraries".A, orange and blue little free library in the shape of a little house on the pavement. It looks messy with CDs, trash, but also some books in its shelves. An old red telephone box repurposed as a little free library in the centre of the french city Verdun.White shelves with 3 books and lots of empty space and the blue sign "enjoy a book" on top of it. It's inside a train station. The same little free library design can be found in lots of train station halls in Belgium.

Outside of a dog, a book is Man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

It'll be a nice day for walking the dog after a little light rain overnight.

45℉ in Minneapolis; light NE winds; mostly cloudy skies; visibility ten miles at the airport.

And tomorrow's Friday.

Neighborhood Dogs:

Because my dog treat container keeps getting stolen, I'm going to try putting the treats in my Little Free Library. Hopefully you find these treats!

I was delighted to find this book in my neighbourhood little free library. I left it there because maybe someone needs it, and I'd just keep it as a novelty and probably never read it, but I love knowing that this kind of book exists. #LittleFreeLibraries

I'm holding a yellow paperback book entitled "How To Sharpen Pencils: A Practical and Theoretical Treatise on the Artisanal Craft of Pencil Sharpening" by David Rees. In the background, there's a little free library. It is a metal and plexiglass house.

Are you an introvert but still want to make a difference?

Do you like talking to persons but hate talking to people?

Do you want to join community but hate the idea of meeting with community?

Here's a fun thing to do:
- Print zines (little how-to and educational pamphlets).
- Put zines in little free libraries!

Here's a place to download zines for free: sproutdistro.com

Edit: Adding @CrimethInc as well: crimethinc.com/library

Here's a how-to on how to make and put together zines (cheers @susankayequinn )

A standard Little Free Library box is painted a bright blue and has a couple of scenes obviously painted by small children: on one side is a red house under a bright yellow dandelion sun in a blue sky, on the other side is a yellow flower in grass under a yellow sun

The 🐒 and I drove around checking out a few local #littlefreelibraries, we ended up swapping with 3.

A nice little adventure and bit of research before launching our own. 🚀 📚

This country's radical #ChristianNationalists and #evangelicals' misplaced self-righteousness is oozing into secular society, crossing over from church to state.
Their faith lies in their private places of worship, nowhere else. Their demands have no business dictating private citizens' #LittleFreeLibraries or anything else.

A new Little Free Library opens in the Maple Leaf Neighborhood! That copper piping is a clever little gutter to help keep the water away from the doors. The builder is a local contractor. The calligrapher owns a small business preparing gift packages. Sophia Grigor Lunas is a budding poet. Text in ALT.

The Little Free Library box in this photo set is built of cedar painted white. The double door has elegant black cabinet handles. The roof is made of nice bare cedar boards. There is a copper pipe gutter running along the top front of the building, with a downspout on the left. A poem by a young person is taped on the left panel. It reads: Sand on the sea-shore, starfish singing--Wonderful waves, wonder is wanting—Calm clams, climing in the sun—Two more things and then will be done---seahorses sliding thru the silinte sea---halabits happy as can be! The Sea, by Sophia Grigor Lunas.Inside the library is little note by the builders, in fine calligraphy: “Welcome neighbors to our Little Free Library! We have enjoyed other neighborhood Little Free Libraries here in Maple Leaf, so we decided to build our own to add to this wonderful community exchange,
I also wanted to share my love of poetry & calligraphy. If the poem or saying speaks to you, please take a copy. (signed by the builder and calligrapher)”The other side panel has a poem, Wild Geese, by Mary Oliver, read by her in this YouTube video

The Law of Birthdays is a very smart book about free will and the importance of respecting other people’s choices. Using a simple example of a cake, Brenna Jeanneret illustrates how other people feel when their choice is taken away from them. It is a funny and tender story and the illustrations are truly beautiful.

Day 12 #30DaysOfBiking: Rode home via Wayside Vegan Cafe in downtown Olympia, where I stopped for some delicious takeout.
Day 13: A quick helmet-free jaunt to the nearest Little Free Library to drop off a couple of books. Love this one; it's called Barbara's Book Barn and it's on my route to Squaxin Park. Breeze in my hair was awesome too.

Photo of a salmon colored bike with a turquoise bag on the left side of the back rack and a black bag on the right side. The seat is covered by a turquoise seat cover. A light blue handlebar bag hangs from the front. The bike is parked in front of a wood fence with a little free library in the shape of a house hung on the fence. At the top of the house wooden letters spell out Barbara's Book Barn. On the doors letters spell out take a book leave a book. A few letters are missing but you can still see their silhouettes to read the words.
