If there's one thing I wish #KDE Plasma could do, it support the Ctrl-Shift-U combination for #Unicode characters. AFAIK, #MATEDesktop does support this, and I do believe it's supported elsewhere (just tested it in fvwm in Xephyr and it works there too). It's the only gripe I have with #KDEPlasma at the moment. :flan_disappointed:​

I use & voted for #Xfce but some other options could be those DEs purposely designed to "preserve" an older version of a #DesktopEnvironment or GUI toolkit. I suspect they would be extremely unlikely to introduce paradigm-shifting changes

Giving the Tuba fediverse client another go. It's been a while, and I did this in #MateDesktop last time. Let's see how it behaves in #GNOMEDesktop and #OrcaScreenReader V. 4i8.

I usually use Plank for a dock. Can anybody who uses Guix recommend a replacement ? Guix doesn't seem to have Plank or the Mate Dock Applet. I could switch to XFCE if I need to as it has a built in dock but would prefer to stick with mate if I can. #guix #linux #foss #plank #matedesktop

I really like KDE, but I also find Mate to be a cozy experience. Those are currently my two favorite desktops and they have been for about a decade now. LXQt and Xfce are good too and I'll use them but I don't like them as much as those two. But I really only like KDE with the Diamond theme (the Plasma 4 version).

Beyond the release of Xfce 4.20, I've also been thinking about theming in Xubuntu.

We've long shipped the Greybird and Numix themes. Greybird was developed largely internally (❤️ Shimmer Project), but hasn't had much love in recent years. The same can be said for Numix.

What themes do you recommend that are well-maintained and work well with Xfce, MATE, and GNOME? Would they be a good fit for Xubuntu?

Yes! That's how you do it!

I needed to copy a file from the Braille Sense Six, an Android 12 Braille tablet note taker blind thing, and upload it to Google Drive. So I plugged it into my Linux machine. MTP opened in the Caja file manager. I navigated to the file, and pressed Control + C to copy it. I then Alt Tabbed back to Google Chrome, which was open to the Google Drive folder I needed to upload the file to. I then pressed Alt + C, then U, for upload file. I then pressed Alt + ` (grav) to switched to the popup window, pressed Control + V to paste, heard the file name, pressed Enter, and boom, it uploaded, from an external device! Ugh that's so freaking cool! I know, simple, but still! I wasn't sure it'd work.

#FollowerPower I am trying to install #MateDesktop on a #Raspberrypi5 to set up a system running with the latest version of #Orca #Screenreader and I am not able to get it working. I've read several step-by-step guides including installing a dummy display driver, making changes to xorg.conf etc. but no success. I wonder if there's an OS image where Mate is allready included. Any advice is much appreciated. #Linux #Accessibility
