Good morning tooting friends. It’s a chilly morning, around zero at a little before down, it’s around 3c right now & again heading to a sunny 17c. I think my garden could do with watering at some stage today, especially my cumquats.
I broke the handle off my grandma mug doing the dishes last night. It’s the second time, so I’ve repurposed it. It’s sitting outside next to another pot containing a mass of Chain of Tears that has been flowering. I’ve got one of the tendrils in my dirt filled mug, a little ceramic bird ornament to hold it in place while it strikes. It won’t take long. My daughter is going to order me another mug for my birthday in August ☺️, it will be a little different as the grandkids have all grown a bit, the youngest isn’t a baby anymore. Looking forward to it.
I’m picking up my great niece this morning to take her with me while we visit my sister (her grandma). I haven’t seen my great niece for quite a few years as she lives in Sydney & when she’s visited before, I’ve been away.

Here's a follow up on the organic rust remover. Remember the antique mitre saw I bought for 25¢? I didn't have a suitable container to soak it in so I sprayed rust remover on the blade and wrapped it in cellophane. Turned out well.

My favourite part of this project is taking something that would normally become part of our waste stream and turning it into something useful. If food companies can't manage to embrace compostable packaging (and I think they can, they just won't), I wish they would use simple packaging that can be repurposed because we all know most recycling is performative bull excrement designed to ease our guilt about our waste. #reuse #repurpose #recycle

I made leather moulds yesterday. When describing them to a friend he looked like he thought I was out of my mind. (Admittedly, it may be because I am out of my mind.)
I take an old food container (top, center) and make a plaster mould from it. I wet leather, form it around the mould, staple the leather in place and leave it to dry. Practising what I preach, vis-à-vis recycling, reuse, solarpunk, etc.

Used inner tube rubber from the bicycle shop across the road, plus some vulcanizing glue, means the soles of these trainers will last a little bit longer now.

I'd rather have used an old car tyre, but one hasn't materialised (ironic, usually they're everywhere).

Old prescription bottles are good to repurpose into airtight containers to keep your #seeds nicely organized. You can just use masking tape to identify what seeds you keep in each one.

Had my first discussion with a client about them potentially repurposing their 10 year old iMac (with 64GB RAM no less) and convert it into a Chromebook with ChromeFlexOS. Keen to see if they proceed with it.

In the meantime am exploring the accessibility options of the OS given that it has advanced a lot since it was released.
