I just found my bi-polar SMPS power supply that I bought for an audio project. A friend also designed a filter board to remove the high-frequency noise generated because it is a switching supply.

Can somebody please explain to me, why so many switch mode power supplies (#smps) don't implement adequate inrush current limiting? So many just put the primary side capacitors right after the rectifier…

I just had a UPS release the magic smoke from its output IGBTs, just because of the (standby) inrush currents into the bunch of PSUs it was serving.

I played around with switch-mode power supply circuits in Qucs-S tonight.
It's interesting how mutli-phase buck converters make almost all problems smaller; smaller/cheaper inductors, smaller output capacitance, smaller transistors required. The only down-side I can see is that the transistors have to be faster or you have higher switching loss.

I’m watching a lot of YouTube videos about winding flyback transformers for offline switch-mode power supplies. Almost all of them have a multilayer primary winding. 99% of the videos don’t use any additional insulation between layers and they’re using regular enameled wire, which to me seems dangerous — there is 240V between the ends!

Today I was supposed to be editing my story, Instead I spent 6 hours, finally going through the power board of my Samsung Smart TV as well as its main board, checking all the cables and voltages of the pin outs and all passive components...the TV failed last christmas, and it's working again now, what I did to get it working again was repaired the pins that weren't connecting to the cable connector properly and changed a slow blow fuse #TV #SMPS #Electronics #FaultFinding #selfrepair

I built up the switch mode power supply (SMPS) for the Monitor Controller. Very simple build and a nice little design. I'll post a few pics.

I also desoldered a few resistors from the Secret API project because I need to order a new Rev of the PCBs. Hopefully the next Rev will be 100% and then we'll be good to go.
