On the left side of the image is the fuselage of a large passenger floatplane (seaplane). The nose is in the lower left corner with the aircraft stretching away to the upper centre of the image. The aircraft is white apart from the leading edge of the wing that runs across the top of the fuselage, which is black. Along the right margin is the left engine and propeller, which is blurred due to its rotation. Below the engine is one of the floats with a set of steps leading up to the main door to the rear of the passsenger cabin. Two pilots are clearly visible in the cockpit. The captain has his right arm raised and is holding the engines power levers that are located in the roof. The window on his left is lowered and he is leaning out and looking backwards as he reverses the floatplane out from the mooring.

The locarion is Vancouver, Canada. The aircraft is a Harbour Air Seaplanes Twin Otter.

New Zealand now possesses the nucleus of an air force, and as time goes on it is hoped that the force will be placed on a proper footing and take a leading part in the Dominion’s system of defence. To that end developments in other countries are being closely watched…. Recently, the formation of the New Zealand Permanent Air Force and New Zealand Air Force (Territorial), as part of the New Zealand Defence Forces, was gazetted. At present no definite organisation and establishments have been laid down, with the exception of that at "Wigram" Aerodrome, Sockburn, which, having recently been taken over by the Defence Department, is to constitute a training depot. For that purpose it has been staffed with a small permanent staff of two officers and six other ranks.

Now that I have my #XPlane #flightsim solid again, I flew my Cessna 172SP KBUR to KSAN on the RNAV (RNP) Z RWY 27 approach to Lindbergh Field. Then hopped in the DC-3 on floats, jumped over to the bay for some fishing, and then beached it for a nice lunch. Recruited a team of sherpas to help me push it back into the water after grub.
