@Leonixster

It's more about learning your way around and navigation of new "Desktop Environments". *DE*

KDE Plasma may seem more reminicant of Windows 7/Aero:
userbase.kde.org/An_introducti
kde.org/

Gnome may seem more iOS-ish:
usegnome.com/documentation
gnome.org/

Cinnamon is actually a forked project from Gnome 3:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnam

System 76 (Pop! Os) has Cosmic soon:
system76.com/cosmic/

They certainly are different from each other. And different learning experience for both.

Flathub apps work and feel the same no matter what distro you roll with:

flatpak.org/setup/

flathub.org/

Discord+Firefox both tend to get updates faster than some other traditional distribution packagers. And no need to worry about setting up additional media codecs just to watch videos etc.

I 🎮 on #Bazzite
It's Atomic (Chromebook/Steam Deck-like) #Fedora #Kinoite with extra steps, a #UniversalBlue project.
universal-blue.org/
(Linux even a Dad can use).

It uses KDE Plasma Desktop environment. (But also available in Gnome).

If anything ever goes wrong with an update, you just rollback to the previous image. So easy!

got working* Live ISOs for Zeliblue now, thanks to github.com/ublue-os/titanoboa (and heavily referencing Bluefin's implementation)

I love #UniversalBlue

*working as in, it boots, but almost entirely untested otherwise

Ok rpm-ostree cleanup -m
seemed to shift something and now at least Foliate and papers now launch.

Work shill. I will be running a 2 hour interactive workshop next week on #redhat #linux #imagemode AKA #bootc upstream and what forms the basis of a few really cool community projects including #bazzite / #universalblue

This is an #APAC/#ANZ friendly time-slot next Tuesday - register here : red.ht/3ZrFJrK

My Aurora desktop 😊

Ptyxis terminal is great for toolbox container integration. I'm used to a Quake-style dropdown terminal, so I'd like to find a way to hide/show the terminal window with a keyboard shortcut (alt+z). There is possibly a way to do it by writing a kwin script.

I'm eventually going to build my own custom image with the ublue-os/image-template repository.

If you need or want #steamos today, i don't reccomend getting the recovery image and hoping it works, rather just use #bazzite , it's a community maintained operating system that is very batteries included for whatever you want or need today. SteamOS itself I don't know why you would need it specifically,
if it's for #arch then install arch or #endeavouros ,
if you need an immutable and stable system, #universalblue and #VanillaOS have you covered.
If you need a preconfigured OS that has everything you need out of the box, bazzite is a great option.
If you only trust valve, and valve is the only thing you would trust if you are ever gonna use linux, valve sponsers #archlinux , helping with infrastructure as chosen by the project itself.
#Linux is a vast ecosystem that span across different projects for different reasons and methods, and #valve is a great force that helped pushed it to where it is now in terms of how mainstream it is. Linux is already here as a desktop and even to be used as a console OS. If its not working or perfect for you, thats fine, just know that to figure it out, just try it out, even in a usb boot, its not perfect, but it does suite some people better than others.

Really loving Podcasts by @alatiera Clean, easy, and no location-targeted ads. Goodbye 🙌 Currently automating my desktop so it wakes at 6am and opens the app so I can get my morning started ☕

I'm a Cockpit dev, anyone who uses Cockpit in Fedora Atomic who has any gotchas or frustrations?

About to spin up my own CoreOS server which made me wonder if anyone has issues due to ostree or bootc related stuff

Aurora now has Live ISOs using the Anaconda WebUI installer.

Info: universal-blue.discourse.group

There are some gotches with the installer but it works and installs a working system :)

OK, what application do people use for #SDR with #HackRF on an #immutable container-based distro like #UniversalBlue?

I've tried the SDRAngel flatpak (can't get it to see my HackRF device) and the CubicSDR AppImage (doesn't include its dependencies in the image; won't launch). Went to build a couple of others from source and zomg the dependency hell. If there are other flatpaks or appimages that work, I'm all ears, but I didn't see too many on flathub.

Gonna try a VM next, though the HackRF docs suggest it won't work. Maybe that advice is stale.

I just wanna have a computer that I can develop my website on, not a computer that makes me do some mumbo jumbo shit just to install different versions of node.js and its dependencies - like install packages to the base system that can potentially mess up futute installation of OTHER packages 🙄

I’m running out of computers to put #universalblue images onto. My laptop has been on #bluefin since I think F38, and my home server is moving to #ucore when I get some spare time (I have already practiced in a VM what I want to do there).
I’m eyeing up other computers in the house now, like my kid’s windows laptop that won’t run Win11… :D
I’m a bit of a fanboy at this stage, but I really like the direction these system are going in.

Well the desktop finally updated to . No hurry and hassle obviously and without me having to do anything. You get spoiled once you're on an atomic distro.

Has anyone tried running #universalblue / #ublue / #bluefin headless? I want to use it to run #k3s and #ollama on an AMD ryzen mini PC as a lab machine to play around with K8s and ollama at home to try things out that I don't often get to do at work. I know I can use the base ublue image but that looks like a PITA to install compared to just running bluefin headless

Last year I divested from to consume music more intentionally and pay directly to artists or via and now I'm taking it a ridiculous step further in my nostalgia for physical media. I merged all the tracks of each album as a single file. No more track skipping. Just play.

A grid of album covers nested in a music player on a desktop display.
