On the first day of our short stay in Kent based in Margate in 2014 we headed down the coast to Dover which neither of us had been to before. It had rained early when we'd visited Dover Castle and fended off the hundred or so attempts to get us to join English Heritage but for our walk along the famous White Cliffs we had sunshine and a stiff breeze. We were also close enough to France to not only see it but to have our phones keep switching between UK and French providers.

We're on high cliffs, looking along the clifftop with the sea to our right. The path is well worn and set within a narrow boundary of short, pale grass with some dry bushes around. The land rises quickly to the left forming another clifftop set back from the edge ahead and to the left. On the right side the cliff drops to another wide ledge of more grassy land atop a sheer cliff of white chalk. It's then dozens of metres to the sea's surface which appears nearly flat from this distance. It's a bright day with lots of blue sky and little cloud, although some is covering the sun just now, and it feels exposed and windy here.
