A wooden nesting box attached to a thick tree trunk. The door to this littke cubic house is a round hole, just big enough for small birds. The front of the birdhouse is decorated with a rusty horseshoe. On the right-hand wall of the box is an inscription or carving that reads "I ♡ Lübeck" (I love Lübeck), with the heart painted red. Some twigs with green leaves can be seen on the left side of the trunk.

A fox just decided to hunker down in our picnic area. Given the blep and squint, she seems eeeeeeepy.

A fox sits, weight on its front legs, just on the boundary between a grassy area and a mulched area. Its tongue is slightly extended, like it's maybe licking its chops. The sun shines through its fur from behind, showing a healthy size and shape. If you couldn't see the head, the body shape and coloring might give you the impression of a young German Shepherd.

Yesterday I posted a photo of an Azure Damselfly. Today I'm posting a photo of a very similar insect, photographed on the same day at the same location, Whixall Moss in Shropshire, UK. This is a White-legged Damselfly (Platycnemis pennipes). Notice the obvious white stripes down each of the legs. This is a male (the females are cream rather than blue).

A large insect with a long, slender abdomen with bright blue and black markings. It has a large pair of eyes giving it almost all-round vision. Two pairs of wings are folded parallel to the body (which distinguishes damselflies from dragonflies). Each of the four wings, which are otherwise translucent, has a small pale brown segment (the pterostigma) near the apex. The insect is resting in bright sunlight on a blade of grass.

The theme was the Big Garden Birdwatch and I just Love starlings. Their feathers are black but shiny colourfull. They fly in these amazing flocks creating interesting patterns and they often imitade other birds.

🪂 PARACHUTING BEAVERS
Save the Day 🦫🥇

After WW2, beavers in conflict with human neighbors had to be moved from suburbs to an Idaho mountains river basin.

✈️ No usual method of transportation worked in the dense slopes, so they attached spring-loaded boxes to parachutes, put in 76 beavers, and chunked them out of a plane.

It worked. There is video.
