Wayland better than X11? HyperLand ML4E
Thank you, Arch Linux, again!
This time, though, the forum, not the wiki (which is famous even on other distros).
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=231494 helped me to fix the crazily too-fast IBM nipple #TrackPoint on #Debian #trixie compared to Debian bullseye; the values I’ve settled on after a few tries are:
$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-mouse-acceleration.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Trackpoint"
MatchProduct "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint"
Driver "libinput"
Option "Accel Profile" "flat"
Option "Accel Speed" "0.33"
EndSection
LOL:
The Latest #XOrg Server Activity Are A Lot Of Code Reverts
I think it’s time to start checking my next Linux hop. There is a restriction which will really limit the options.
My next Linux install must support Xorg/Xlibre (hopefully the second)
Extra points if it doesn’t use systemd (but not mandatory)
I’ll keep this post pinned to add updates on my findings.
I feel like it really says about the state of the X11 diehard community in 2025 that the big forked project they're all hyped about to keep X11 going is run by a right-wing anti-vax chud whose major commitments to upstream had to be reverted due to sheer incompetence.
It's fine if you are ride or die for X11, but I dunno if I'd put much stock into XLibre :blobfoxlaughsweat: And honestly Wayland is the future of the Linux desktop, let's be real here.

https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/xlibre.html

@elementary all modern hardware I'm aware if supports #Wayland and some don't support #Xorg at all...
sudo pacman -S ly
sudo nvim /etc/ly/config.ini
#displaymanager #archlinux #xorg #wayland
Interesting situation with #XLibre. I'm curious what #IBM / #RedHat justification might be for trying to remove all traces of the #OpenSource #Xorg #Fork. Is this an option that could be better than #Wayland? What would IBM / RedHat gain from trying to disappear a #SoftwareEngineer and their code from existing on their platform?

I fully support Wayland, but after watching this video @BrodieOnLinux@mstdn.social even I hope the new XLibre Xserver project sees some success.

Since the license is MIT it's easy to Fork
Read my sentence carefully easy to Fork not an Easy project to continue.
IMHO X.org is so important that a group of seasoned programmers have to, not just fork, but put up the infrastructure that the fork can be continued just like The Force
I deliberately used the reference of The Force
There are way too many systems which rely on X.org and cannot or will not use Wayland
As you all know all major desktop environments DE and window managers WM are as agnostic as possible to the display system.
The reasons are obvious and all the technical details are in the Man Pages of those specific window managers and desktop environments.
It's only Gnome where the programmers want to Super dictate what goes on in that DE, and it's their right because they have people {hundreds of thousands?} who love that kind of dominance invoked upon them.
Do not forget that Gnome has made a number of fantastic programs that are used in other desktop / window managers and in {ba}{c}{z}{k}sh}. I use a couple of their fantastically written programs also in at least three different desktop and window managers
If there are enough people who don't like that dominance in the Gnome DE, they are also welcome to Fork Gnome.
I've read Stories Of People who didn't know how to program who in a couple of months with assistance, were able to create a whole distribution in the BSD realm a super Fantastic feat, so is this possible to do so even as a beginning programmer.
More massive projects have been forked, than Xorg and they are still around Alive and kicking.
From my perspective it's just a new spawn of x.org

Don't abandon or dismiss an open-source project simply because you think it should no longer exist or that your solution is superior. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdlhHOLaRgQ
