Romani in Alto Adige: ritrovato a Egna un edificio con fucina, era lungo l’antica Via Claudia Augusta

Nuova scoperta in Alto Adige: a Egna, in via Bolzano, gli archeologi dell’Ufficio Beni archeologici della Soprintendenza provinciale ai Beni culturali, insieme alla ditta specializzata SRA, hanno portato alla luce un edificio romano databile ai primi secoli dopo Cristo.

L’abitazione, in muratura legata con calce, misura circa 11 metri per 8 e comprende due ambienti distinti. Uno di questi era chiaramente destinato ad attività produttive: lo testimoniano strati ricchi di carbone, una fossa di combustione con scorie e resti carbonizzati e una notevole quantità di piccoli oggetti in ferro, tra cui numerosi chiodi ancora in fase di restauro. Tutti questi indizi indicano che l’edificio ospitava una fucina, cioè un’officina per la lavorazione dei metalli.

Tra i reperti rinvenuti figurano anche tegole con bollo “AURESIS”, cinque monete e frammenti di ceramica, vetro e anfore, che permettono di collocare il complesso nei primi secoli dell’Impero romano.

Egna romana: tra la Mansio Endidae e la Via Claudia Augusta

Il sito si trova in posizione strategica, poco sopra via Bolzano, sul versante opposto rispetto al luogo in cui, alcuni anni fa, era stata scoperta la stazione stradale “Mansio Endidae”. Quest’ultima sorgeva lungo la Via Claudia Augusta, arteria imperiale che collegava il nord Italia alla provincia della Rezia, fino ad Augusta Vindelicum (l’attuale Augsburg, in Germania).

Negli ultimi anni, nella stessa area, erano già emerse sepolture a cremazione di epoca romana, a testimonianza della continuità insediativa e dell’importanza di Egna come nodo viario e produttivo.

Gli archeologi ipotizzano che l’edificio appena portato alla luce fosse strettamente collegato alla stazione stradale, forse come officina di servizio per viaggiatori e carri lungo la Via Claudia Augusta.

Il ritrovamento conferma ancora una volta la centralità di Egna in epoca romana, come punto di passaggio, di scambio e di produzione. I reperti — ora in fase di studio e restauro — saranno destinati ai depositi della Soprintendenza, con la prospettiva di un futuro allestimento museale dedicato alla Egna romana.

All things must come to an end and so did our crossing of the Alps in 2023 with stage 11. On our way from Talschlusshütte to Dreizinnenhütte we didn't talk much as we soaked it all in and were both lost in thought about the past few days. Once we were getting closer to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo it got more and more crowded and we were a bit overwhelmed. After a pause at the hut - much longer than we anticipated, because it was so full - we left for the last part and the final destination. We crossed the imaginary finish line at Rifugio Auronzo and were received by our beloved ones.

It's been our greatest adventure yet and we absorbed so many unforgettable impressions.

Everything is quiet at Talschlusshütte at 8 o'clock in the morning and the sun is still behind the mountains.

I walk upon a gravel path. There is a wooded section in front me. Far rising Dolomites on the left. A small and upper part of the mountains glows in the sunlight.

The sun slowly sun emerges from behind the stark outline of the Pale Mountains. A stream of water flows below.

The Dreizinnenhütte sits in a vast and open are in front of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. People can be seen around the hut. The sky is clear blue.

Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Spinnenarten hat die Gartenkreuzspinne einen zweijährigen Lebensrhythmus, d.h. es leben zwei unterschiedlich entwickelte Spinnengenerationen nebeneinander. Im September und Oktober, wenn die Eier abgelegt werden, sind es für wenige Tage sogar drei Generationen. In ihren Kokons überstehen die Jungspinnen Temperaturen von unter -20 Grad Celsius.

Die Hornissenschwebfliege, auch Waldschwebfliege genannt, hat eine Flügelschlaggeschwindigkeit von bis zu 300 Hertz. Dadurch kann sie gewissermaßen in der Luft schweben und ist zu ihrem Namen „Schwebfliege“ gekommen. Zu finden ist sie vor allem an Wiesen und in der Nähe von Wäldern. Sowohl ihr Name als auch ihr Äußeres ähnelt einer Hornisse. Allerdings besteht keine Verwandtschaft zwischen beiden Insekten. Die Hornissenschwebfliege imitiert das Aussehen der Hornisse zum Schutz vor Feinden.

Steinschmätzer sind vor allem in steinigen Gelände zu finden, wo sie mit ihrem Gefieder optimal getarnt sind. In Deutschland ist der Vogel als „vom Aussterben bedroht“ eingestuft. In Südtirol, wo ich ihn fotografieren konnte, ist er auf der Roten Liste als „potentiell gefährdet“ vermerkt.
Die Bestandsabnahme ist mit dem Lebensraumverlust zu erklären. Der Vogel hat eine Vorliebe für vegetationsarme Offebflächen und besiedelt gerne Abbaugebiete und Brachen, die schnell zu Brachland werden. Außerdem wachsen natürliche Lebensräume wie Sandheiden durch Stickstoffdüngung aus der Luft immer weiter zu und werden so ungeeignet.

Remember my post about day seven of our crossing of the Alps? Turns out, I probably became infected on Lienzer Hütte. My body temperature rose during the evening and I had to leave dinner early to change to an empty basement room at Sillianer Hütte. The night was hellish with little sleep. I felt a bit better the next morning, but still pretty weak. Fortunately, nearly all we had to do on stage 10 was descending to Italy during another warm day until we reached the Talschlusshütte in Fischlein valley at the edge of the Sexten Dolomites and I finally could recover a bit. Some wistfulness settled in this evening as the penultimate day of this amazing journey came to an end.

Die Nonne ist zwischen Juli und August in Wäldern, vorwiegend Mischwäldern, zu finden. Gelegentlich neigt sie zur Massenvermehrung, wodurch sie als Forstschädling auftreten kann. Die Falter sind überwiegend nachtaktiv und die Männchen lassen sich mit künstlichen Lichtquellen anlocken.

Der Bunte Grashüpfer variiert in seiner Färbung von grün, braun oder rot bis ins gelbliche bzw. besteht aus einer Kombination dieser Farben. Die Weibchen sind mit 24 mm größer als die Männchen (17 mm). Die adulten Tiere können zwischen Mai und September an mäßig trockenen bis feuchten Standorten gesichtet werden. Dort bevorzugen sie sandige oder moorige Böden, die extensiv oder gar nicht genutzt werden.

Die Rote Mordwanze ernährt sich ausschließlich räuberisch von verschiedenen Insekten. Oft sind diese größer als sie selbst. Sie lauert ihrer Beute auf Blüten sitzend auf. Dieses Verhalten hat ihr ihren Namen eingebracht. Die Beute wird durch einen Stich mit ihrem Stechrüssel rasch abgetötet und ausgesaugt. Der Stich ist für Menschen schmerzhaft.

Ninth day of our crossing of the Alps and simultaneously the start of a little extension to the classical Berchtesgaden-Lienz route: From Sillian the only way was up till we reached Sillianer Hütte, which is situated exactly at the Austrian-Italian border. At the beginning we followed a forestry track. After we worked through roughly two thirds of this day's march we had lunch at Leckfeldalm where we were belted by many cows. There was also a change in scenery at Leckfeldalm. We left the woods behind us and continued on gravel through an area more open and rocky than before. We had some leisure time at the hut before I felt something happening in my body...but more on that next week when it's time for another ThrowbackThursday post.

In this picture many cut down trees and stumps in the woods can be seen. I walk with trekking poles on a badly visible hiking path through the wide and open area. Some trees at the edge of the area are also infested by bark beetles. The sky is clear blue. It's a hot day.

My girlfriend walks on a hiking path which leads out of the forest. My patches of sunlight fall through the trees on the ground.

Tannenmeisen sind meistens in Nadelwäldern anzutreffen, vor allem wenn dort Fichten dominieren. Sie brüten häufig in Bodennähe, z.B. in Felsspalten oder unter Baumwurzeln. Nach ihrer Nahrung, welche überwiegend aus Insekten, deren Larven und Spinnen besteht, suchen sie hingegen in den Baumwipfeln und auf Zweigen. Im Winter fressen sie aber auch Sämereien. Die Tannenmeisen sind überwiegend Standvögel. Je nach Nahrungsangebot zieht es sie aber auch Richtung Südeuropa.
