What a November we've had. Twice the average rainfall - no wonder I feel like I am growing barnacles. And half of that has fallen in the past few days. It rained again overnight, quite heavily, so when that is added to the total, it will be an extraordinarily wet month.

It has also been cold - 3C colder than the long term average. It has been a couple of years I reckon since a month wasn't hotter than the long term average. It has definitely been layers-of-clothing type weather this year.

Still, some salads have entered the kitchen vocabulary, amongst the plentiful soups.

3 years of trying, and I have finally grown a Broad Bean!

Planting them out earlier and earlier trying to beat the blackfly was a mug's game apparently, the wise grower leaves it late so they don't start shooting until the blackfly predators are out.

Here's what I made with my first harvest of fava beans. Puréed them with ricotta, mint, basil, garlic, shallots, cream, olive oil, and red pepper flakes.
