Perpetuum mobile
Brightened glister-edge is burning
Scatters motes as bright as day

Sacred blades I draw across ye
Whet their edge with every stroke
Cherished slights and griefs and losses
Reddened eyes and heart all broke

Hone them each and turn them inward
Finding flesh anew to pare
Keeping fresh those hurts going forward
Savour each as proof was there

Tropical Storm #Hone now between Honolulu and Midway Island. Wind shear pushing storms off leaving a harmless cloud swirl. Models have it recovering though over open waters. 29Aug2024

One after-effect of large storms like #hone is massive runoff into the ocean.

A huge amount of rainfall means that everything up the mountain comes down.

Cesspools might overflow, garbage in the jungle (including dumped motor vehicles and other appliances, along with their old fluids and corrosion) comes down, agricultural runoff comes down, dead animals, and whatever else: it all ends up in the ocean.

So it's recommended to NOT SWIM for like...a while..after heavy rains.

It's called "brown water" (because it includes soil from upriver, but also presumably poop), and the water does actually look brown (especially at the places where rivers meet the ocean).

Currently, there's a brown water advisory for all east-facing shores of the island, so yea..it was a big storm 😱

It didn't rain most of the morning, so I decided to go out and get water at the public water spigots by the local transfer station (where trash and recycling goes).

Of course it was pouring when I got there, so I waited in my car for 10 mins, but the rain stayed strong. So I just ran out and refilled my water. Didn't get too too wet, plus I got this extremely jungly photo of the entrance to the transfer station 😁

There were a bunch of wet chickens standing around under the trees. (Chickens, cats, and pigs congregate in that area. It's a true watering hole 😅)
