Markets under capitalism are an open system whose norms and protocols can be hijacked to create permanent structural advantages. Very similar to #exploits #vulnerabilities in #cybersecurity.
Because #capitalists institutions determine what can be bought and sold in market capitalism they are often targets of hijacking.

1. Property rights limit competition.
2. Property rights enforcement invites exploitation.
3. Markets reward secrecy but need transparency to function well.

Market failure = firm success. To understand #economic reality, we have to understand that companies are competing over ways to avoid economic competition. Even if it comes at consumers' expense. Corporate kung fu are the insane tactics companies pursue that screw over consumers.

#LLMs are the perfect microcosm of capitalism. These systems mask the vast amounts of labor needed to run them, allowing commodity fetishism to form around #AImodels.
This mirrors the fetishism #neoliberal #economists display around markets, detached from understanding the influence of #capitalist institutions and #politics on markets.
(2/6) #LLM “intelligence” is a #darkpattern. I argue that the defining feature of LLMs is that they’re a structured “dark pattern” meant to launder the idea that a mind’s on the other side.
To that end, unlike any good technology, there’s no affordance that promotes any intended use. That doesn't make LLMs useless, but it makes them extremely dangerous from a user safety standpoint. Like a hammer without a handle.

Pains in fitting a discrete mixture of models (in the simple case equivalent to Bayesian Model Averaging) in Stan are discussed. The claim is that a custom Gibbs sampler works better. The Gibbs results appear more sensible, though I wonder whether it is because the Gibbs posterior is correct or Gibbs is wrong, but the posterior is weird in this case.
I've personally had trouble fitting this sorts of model directly in Stan due to convergence problems, so can totally sympathize. 3/ #longThread
The same issue was mentioned by another speaker. Part of the reason seems to be that multiple ML runs are assumed good practice (the model is reportedly highly non-linear).
Also, apparently not using Stan is considered somewhat weird as all speakers using a different sampler felt the need to explicitly explain why they didn't use Stan. :-D :stan: 2/

Au bout d'un moment plus long, elle était en état de parler. Elle ne se rappelait pas ce qui s'était passé et se demandait pourquoi ses enfants étaient dans cet état. On a essayé de savoir s'il y avait un numéro à contacter ou de trouver son téléphone, mais sans succès.
C'est à peu près à ce moment que le samu est arrivé. Elle semblait avoir à peu près repris ses esprit. Ils ont demandé où ils habitaient à un des enfants qui a récité son adresse par cœur, et faute d'une meilleur solution, je crois qu'ils l'ont raccompagné à pied avec ses enfants. (Je suis sorti pour leur laisser de la place et j'ai juste entendu que finalement ils ne prenaient pas sa tension. Je crois qu'ils ont aussi conclu à une crise d'épilepsie). Tout ça a duré peut-être 20 minutes.
Je suis retourné dans le magasin acheter les trois babioles devant lesquelles j'hésitais et je suis retourné attendre ma nièce.
Au bout d'un moment, la jeune femme a repris conscience mais sans arriver à parler. Elle a fermé les yeux. Je lui ai touché le bras en disant qu'il valait peut-être mieux attendre les secours avant de s'endormir (ça m'avait l'air d'une crise d'épilepsie mais je ne suis pas médecin, donc dans le doute…).
La vendeuse est revenue, a dit qu'elle était infirmière avant et l'a laissé dormir un peu en me demandant de l'aider à la remettre en PLS (elle s'était retourné sur le dos après avoir repris conscience).
