An Asian Ant Mantis (Odontomantis planiceps) nymph spotted at Springleaf Park Connector, Singapore on 17 Nov 2024. When young, the mantis is black and looks like an ant. This one is starting to turn green, the colour of the adult.

Unfortunately the really well-preserved mantis encased in amber are stashed away in private collections where nobody can study them. I can't even track where this image is from except that the specimen was sold in an auction.

Ameles spallanzania mantis from our garden. A fairly small mantis, orange-brown in color, sits on a twig with small green leaves, looking towards the camera.

I wanted to search for the P. edusa from yesterday and instead just came across my very first Mantis religiosa. It already had been observed sporadically in my district during the fast five to six years, however it reached another FFH territory several kilometers farther north a year before eventually discovering "Zone II" of my main study area, making its migration pattern appear fairly zig-zagged.

The mantis is a light green. It has yellow patches and a tiny white dot on the back. The legs are veering to orange.

The succulent is grey-blue, slender and tall. The leaves are very small, also grey-blue and with reddish borders.

A slender mantis stands on a glass jar.

The mantis is light brown with darker brown. It is a side view and the mantis' head is slightly turned towards the camera which gives the impression of cheeky, sideways look.

Of the jar only the top half is visible.

The background is out of focus and is a very dark green.

Two Asian Ant Mantis (Odontomantis planiceps), both nymphs, spotted at Bukit Gombak Park on 5 August 2023. The first one is due to become a green coloured adult, while the second still resembles a black ant.
