My #maplelinux (canadian) distro broke this morning. #nvidia wasn't loading anymore.
Honestly, that's something that I expected from the very beginning.
I tried removing it and go back to nouveau, the open source driver. But it wouldn't work.
I got tired of fighting with it, so I installed a new OS instead: #pikaOS
It's a #debian based #linux distro. They have some ISO with nvidia included. Thank God.

Am Samstag noch großen Ärger mit dem #PikaOS gehabt. Das große Systemupdate, mehr als 1000 neue Pakete, hatte einfach alles zerschossen. Liebe Devs, wenn man schon so ein heftiges Update herausbringt, wäre vorher testen schon sehr geil gewesen.
Also der Test war somit nicht erfolgreich. Das Projekt muss wohl noch länger reifen. Ich bin jetzt wieder mit @mxlinux unterwegs. Und dank der Timeshift Sicherung war der Umzug jetzt auch nicht so dramatisch.
Auf der Arbeit läuft noch das @SparkyLinux erfolgreich auf dem Laptop vor sich hin, trotzt das es Semi Rolling ist. Bisher keinen einzigen Updatefail gehabt.

So the Owlbear has mentioned before that animations can be an accessibility issue. I personally find them to be very useful. They don't have to be much, or fancy, just present.
That said, I like them to be at least a little appealing. And the default #Niri stuff on #PikaOS fits the bill. I have taken to this tiling WM in a way that I haven't with others. The Expose feature combined with a simple scrolling workspace is familiar, easy to use, and powerful.
That said, I'm probably not staying here.
I just prefer a (very) slightly modified #Gnome workflow. The tiling features built into Gnome are enough for Owlbear s, and even if they weren't, the tiling Gnome Extensions fit the bill.
So imma prolly play with Niri for a few more days and then switch to… I dunno. It might be time to settle down for a minute. Something comfortable? #Arch, #Debian, #OpenSuse - one of the core operating systems maybe?
And probably Gnome. It's where I go to get stuff done.
So yesterday was my first foray into using #Niri and it's super pretty, friends. The windows organize themselves coherently by default, the keyboard commands are fairly intuitive and once I wrapped my head around the basics, the Owlbear could even guess a few (I'm working with the #PikaOS defaults here).
I'm running into a issue with it rendering Steam, in that it's just a black window and none of the contents are visisble. This isn't my gaming PC so that's not a HUGE issue. I mostly play stuff from #itchio or #OpenSourceGames on my laptop if I play games at all. So I can sort it out, like, when I get around to it.
Anyway, first impressions are overall positive! I'll report further when I have other stuff to say 😃
On a completely unrelated note, I think imma try this #Niri #WindowManager I keep hearing about. Gonna throw the Niri version of #PikaOS on my laptop and dive straight into deep end.
Oh, have I told y'all that The Owlbear is running PikaOS on their gaming computer? And is rather liking it? I know, the Owlbear running #Debian based #Linux. I'm as surprised as anyone.
(FTR before anyone jumps on me, I have absolutely nothing against Debian, and in fact recognize it as possibility the most important of the major distributions; any and all shots I make at Debian are jokes.)

Nachdem die Lady @sunshine eine Linux Gaming Distro verpasst bekommen hat, habe ich mich auch ein bisschen umgeschaut.
Gefunden habe ich für mich das #PikaOS. Image basierendes Debian Zocker OS mit richtig schnellen Bootzeiten und vielen Extras. Und ja, da haben auch die Entwickler vom CachyOS und Nobara ihre Finger mit drin. Es sieht mit Artworks nicht nur niedlich aus, sondern macht auch lustige Geräusche beim Einloggen in den Desktop.
Die Performance mit meinen GOG Linux Games ist sehr gut. Keine Lags oder ähnliches. Die Installation der Games habe ich mit Minigalaxy völlig problemlos erledigt. Lutris läuft auch, habe nur die Wine-GE und Proton-GE Performance noch nicht getestet.

So I ended up going with #PikaOS for my gaming PC, and I'm currently trying out #AerynOS on my laptop.
The install process needs work; you have to manually partition your hard drive. Which, honestly, is a good idea right now; the OS is in alpha, so if you can't manage to set up your hard drive using Gparted, you probably shouldn't be running it yet.
Some more OS #shenanigans today: Did an update on the #Bazzite mini pc and it #borked the system. Once logged in the system would freeze.
After some attempts to troubleshoot I installed #PikaOS instead. For all intents and purposes, it runs and looks the same just with a different base.
And on the main pc front if I cannot fix the issues with glitchy gnome apps on #Nobara, I will be moving to another distro soonish.
Okay, so after making a big post about how I was looking for a new #Linux foreverhome and I was gonna stop #DistroHopping on my laptop and wanted something...
Look. Long story short, I put #GnomeOS Nightly on my laptop because who cares about production-stable?
I will say my new Browser Home (at least currently) is #Waterfox because it fit in my threat model, has a slightly tweaked interface that I feel fits in better on a Gnome desktop, and overall just seemed the way to go.
Still trying to figure out what to so with my Gaming PC (currently running Bazzite). #PikaOS maybe? #DraugerOS? Something #Arch based?
I dunno, but you can rest assured that The Owlbear will absolutely bore you with the details!
@Kaishen #CachyOS has gaming specific tweaks that some folks like, but it can be a bit unstable.
#PikaOS is a truly outstanding Debian based system built for gaming. I tested it out and I'm a fan, and that's coming from someone who usually bounces off Debian based distros.
Those would be the ones I'd point you towards. Of the two, I'd say Pika is the better overall experience, but Cachy is more optimized.
For the curious, I'm currently running #PikaOS on my laptop as I search for a new home OS because #Fedora decided it loved #AI more than it loved me.
PikaOS is based on #Debian Unstable (Sid), and is a gaming focused distro, kinda like the Debian version of #Nobara.
Great installer and onboarding app, #APX and APX-GUI from #VanillaOS are installed by default making container management a breeze, and the installation of Steam, Heroic, etc. was literally a click away after install and update.
PikaOS has its own custom package management software called pikman that's like Apt, except faster and easier to work with (although it does have some hiccups).
I want to call special attention to the included wallpapers, which are FUCKING ADORABLE 😍.
Overall it's been a good experience. I gotta say, PikaOS team, you might have a new owlbear-shaped fan… except for the goddamn motherfucking Discord support with no forums.
