ZFS pool migrated to the Debian VM, had to update the ZFS mount points, but all services on that VM look happy, nothing cares that the data is now on a ZFS pool and not a NFS mount. Success!

Biggest drama was having to sign the ZFS module due to the Oracle licensing BS and then import the self signed key for secure boot.

Just need to set up the NFS exports for the other hosts that need to access data, and then test those services.

Ugh... It looks like #ovh no longer offers its cheapest line of #vps  -- like I use to host my fediverse instance --  which makes me wonder for how much longer they'll let me rent one...

I'm currently paying 4.20€/mo  (inc. taxes) for a 1vcpu/2 GiB RAM/ 20 GiB storage/100Mbps bandwith instance. Their new line-up starts at 6.62€/mo for 4 vcpus/8 GiB/75 GiB/400Mbps, so on paper it's 300% more resources for 57% more money; not a bad deal.
And I guess it is, if you use up the extra resources. But if you don't, you're just paying more for bigger numbers on a dashboard...

After about 5 evenings of banging my head against the wall, my NextCloud instance is finally back online! One step further on the #selfhosting journey - it is now running on an old laptop at home, with a dumb cloud machine streaming encrypted traffic to the public internet. And that machine is behind wireguard, so in the future when I need fully private services, I can add those to the VPN.

Pomalu budeme se seriálem SelfHosting a HomeServer končit — začíná to být docela hotové.
Teď se chci vrhnout na plné používání serveru, postupné rušení předplatných u Google a Apple a celkový přechod k větší digitální soběstačnosti.

Dnešní upgrade den 🧰
Server dostal nové disky a s tím přišlo pár změn:

• Immich knihovna → vlastní HDD
• Nextcloud data → samostatný disk
• SSD pro systém a zálohy zůstávají oddělené
• zapnutý weekly TRIM
• SMART monitoring všech disků

A taky jsem vylepšil vlastní `server-check` skript.

Teď stačí v terminálu napsat `sc` a během pár sekund vidím:

• stav záloh
• teploty CPU/NVMe
• využití všech disků
• SMART zdraví SSD/HDD
• RAM a load
• DNS + HTTPS konektivitu
• běh služeb (mastodon, nginx, php, immich…)
• fail2ban jaily
• dostupnost LibreTranslate, Nextcloud a Immich

Malý domácí health-check dashboard přímo v CLI. 😀
