Looking forward to being part of the RGS-IBG Melbourne Hub on August 30 rgs.org/research/annual-intern. I'll be chairing a great ECA panel on 'Impactful research careers in a time of converging crises.’ Then we join the main conf later for Chair's Plenary with Lauren Rickards and Svenja Keele. #ECR #ECA #flyingless #RGSIBG23 #ecrchat

#introduction Okay, after some fiddling I have consolidated my Project Mushroom account and my previous account on a federated server here, so hello (again)!

I am a freelance science writer based in eastern Washington. I mostly write about birds. Other interests: #knitting, #nativeplants, #parenting, #reading.

Help our threatened species hop to No.1 in the ARIA charts!

Having sent ‘Birds’ soaring to No.2 on the ARIA charts ahead of ABBA and Adele in 2021, ‘Songs of Disappearance’ is back with an album featuring 43 of our most threatened #frogs

The title track celebrates the incredible diversity of the Australian #soundscape and highlights what we stand to lose without taking action.

Be immersed in a chorus of croaks, singing from all corners of #Australia.

Hi! #introduction

I'm an acoustic ecology professor at UNH.

Our lab studies how #animals use sound to sense the environment and #acoustic approaches for #population estimation and #phenology.

We combine mobile platforms like #drones and #falconry w/ thermal imaging and acoustic sensors. A big push is developing #open-source approaches for monitoring and #conservation.

#Bats are my main jam, but we have new projects with #frogs, #penguins and #moose.

Excited to build connections here!

The mountain mist frog, a species once found across two-thirds of Australia’s wet tropics, has been declared extinct on the International Union for Conservation of Nature red list. “For tens of thousands of years there were these little frogs that were calling their hearts out in these #rainforests and now it’s silent. We have a terrible track record on frog conservation in Australia.”

I love frogs. When I was a kid I would pick them up and be in awe of them! Little did I know this was a special interest of mine. Frogs, trees, rocks. After my formal diagnosis, everything started to make sense!

New insights into the #evolution of color patterns in #frogs and #toads phys.org/news/2022-11-uncover-

Paper by Sandra Goutte et al.: academic.oup.com/mbe/article/3 #genomics #amphibians

Many #anurans have a light stripe along their back, which, when observed from above, creates the #OpticalIllusion that the animal is split in two halves and confuses visually-oriented #predators. Little is known regarding its evolution or genetic origin.
