With a sigh of relief (wandering soul et al..) I can mention I've just installed Artix Linux, with the runit init system, Zen kernel and Cosmic alpha 7. My first steps with runit were with Void Linux, obviously. I just love its sparseness and clarity, I think it has become my favorite. Onwards we go!

From forum: Xlibre release 25.0.0.0 now available for testing
Para este #ViernesDeEscritorio traigo una captura de #ArtixLinux con #Gnome y una personalización #Tokyo-Night.
Nothing against #popos but I've gotten restless again and went and installed #artixlinux on my work machine.
Does anyone use #artixlinux? I was planning to try that instead of hard-to-install #archlinux.
I’ve been trying to switch over from Arch to Artix (dinit) for the past week, and from KDE to Gnome at the same time.
For whatever reason I couldn’t get GDM to work. I kept getting a black screen with a blinking cursor. Logs show libmutter can’t find XDG_RUNTIME_DIR. I’m using Turnstile and Seatd, elogind is also installed. Everything else works fine.
Got fed up after spending a few evenings trying to fix it. Removed Gnome and installed Hyprland. Life’s good again
Artix Linux: Arch Goodness Without Systemd

Parfois, on tombe sur des trucs bizarres dans le logiciel libre, comme une distribution live qui fait consommer 3,8 Go de mémoire avec l'utilisation d'Openbox. Si, c'est possible...
I got it! So for Artix Linux OpenRC:
rc-update add/delete <service> to enable/disable a service.
rc-service <service> start/stop to start/stop a service.
Gotcha. This will really come in handy for when I actually migrate to Gentoo and become a Gentoo citizen (just kidding lol)
#artix #artixlinux #openrc #linux #freesoftware #opensource #foss #gentoo #gentoolinux
So Void Linux and Artix Linux has different different directories for their service stuff.
In runit version of Artix, services are stored in /etc/runit/sv/. The 'sv' command reads anything that's in /run/runit/service/. Ok gotcha.
Symlinking a service from /etc/runit/sv/ to /run/runit/service allows it to be controlled with the 'sv' command, basically enabling it. Neat!
#artix #artixlinux #void #voidlinux #linux #freesoftware #opensource #foss
So for #artix with s6 init, I have to install the service with an -s6 prefix, do touch /etc/s6/adminsv/default/contents.d/<service_name> then s6-db-reload to enable a service. To temporarily start/stop a service, I just do s6-rc -u/-d change <service_name>. Alright, alright. Gotcha
To disable the service, just remove the touched file. Alright, gotcha, bear. Thansk
I'm in the mood for some #linux distro exploration today! If y'all got some more suggestions other than the ones below, leave them down below!
I will play around distros that are #systemd less, such as #voidlinux, #devuan, #chimeralinux, #artix, and #venomlinux.
I will also install #archlinux, btw, but try changing the init, see how it all goes.
And I will also try to install #xfce on #alpine and try to make it usable :)
My systemd/elogind-free experiment continues.
Most functionality can be replaced by acpid, dinit, seatd and turnstile; but when it comes to refined power management you’re on your own.
When using Wayland with an NVIDIA GPU on a systemd system you have to start the sleep, hibernate and resume services to properly suspend/resume the GPU.
I’ve had to resort to using pm-utils and add a bash script to /etc/sleep.d to achieve the same. Nothing else (maintained) had what I needed.
Spent my weekend installing & configuring Artix. Linux can be frustrating when you go off the beaten path.
I’m using dinit as system init and service manager. On systemd-free systems, you’d typically use elogind, but I decided to try replacing it with seatd, turnstile, and acpid.
The only problem was user services weren’t working. Turns out I needed to enable the turnstile module in pam(system-login) and XDG_RUNTIME_DIR management in turnstile’s config file 😅
#ViernesdeEscritorio con #ArtixLinux #Plasma y el colorscheme #Nord.
I mentioned in a post yesterday that I’m itching to try Hyprland and AGS.
I’ve decided to go off the deep end and try Artix Linux as well.
I have a spare drive and installed Artix (dinit) earlier today. As my time allows I’ll be setting it up similarly to Arch.
One change I’ve already had to make is to use refind instead of systemd-boot. Curious to see how this experiment will pan out.

thining about playing around with linux, and that guy commenting about the #AUR etc. I want to be clear that any of the #distro i've mentioned are because I've used it and found it remarkable. I've only recently started playing with #ArchLinux , in particular #GarudaLinux and #EndeavourOS while I have installed #ArtixLinux a couple of times, oh and a couple of what I would call "really bloated" arch linux distros. blue-mountain something or other. def don't want that, **personally** . for someone, i'm sure it's great and a seamless transition from windows perhaps.
I dont konw what the rest of the world enjoys for a Linux desktop. I don't know what I enjoy for a Linux Desktop!. I've relied upon #MXLinux since circa 2021. I can't complain about a thing about it, as far as a solid #Debian-based system goes.
I enjoy playing with these #Arch #Distrubutions as they seem to afford some pretty cool apps I might otherwise not have realized. So, it's like playing. It's like getting on my friends #Amiga back in 8th grade and being like, "Holy shit! WTF is all this stuff?" So, that's a good thing!
