#Banding

Post production question: Is there a simple way to remove banding/lines in my photos?

I've googled the issue and I understand _why_ it happens, but I'm sometimes forced to shoot in silent mode not to disrupt the show so I'm kinda stuck with it.
I've found a manual solution that means having to use Photoshop and pull some levers (not tried that, so I can't say how well it works), but I'm thinking in these times of AI-solutions, that there could be a simple way to remove it "with a click". I'm usually working in Adobe Lightroom, so it would be cool to know if there's a built-in solution or a filter/preset that could do the job...

ANyone else struggling with this?

Dance photography. The image has horizontal lines over it as a result of the camera's sensor and the frequency of the LED lights not working well together.

The oldest Oystercatchers have been discovered in the Wash in East England! 2 birds were found within 1 month of each other earlier this year; the first had been ringed in 1983 as a chick, while the second was ringed in 1982 as an adult - so it's at least 46 years old (!) and potentially even older. Amazing!

After we diligently sweep the remaining sections of the #scroll surface as described in https://pixelfed.social/p/Splines/794203007066866034, we get a complete surface ready for a quality check using a #surfaceAnalysis tool known as #environmentMapping.

Environment mapping is similar to #textureMapping that I used in https://pixelfed.social/p/Splines/790701780235593999 to give a marble look to a finished design, except that the purpose of an #environmentMap is not to create a finished design, but just to temporarily wrap an image on a surface to check it by "eye."

Here, we see the scroll surface with a polished gold environment map. For many uses, this surface is adequate. But if you are looking for perfection, you will not be able to ignore the #banding on the scroll surface, precisely at each interstitial location — There are 5 distinct bands from 6 #modulatingSpirals.

The banding is caused by our #tertiaryCurves which are #continuous over the scroll surface, but not #smooth. Mathematically speaking, the tertiary curves are not #continuouslyDifferentiable over their entire length. So, is it time for #quaternaryCurves and sweeping the scroll surface again, section by section?

There is an easier way to achieve a smooth patina on the scroll surface using #surfaceBlend. We used #curveBlend, specifically #tangencyBlend in https://pixelfed.social/p/Splines/791723063470910081 and https://pixelfed.social/p/Splines/791794072490907090, and #arcBlend in https://pixelfed.social/p/Splines/792616677005177924.

To build the scroll surface using surface blends, we keep only the front 5 sections and the rear five section intact. That is because these sections are the most definitionally rich and impart the whole surface its distinctive look.

We discard the bands immediately adjacent to the front and rear bands — ones that are 14 units and 7 units deep. Then we split the remaining middle band that is 25 units deep into 18 and 7, with the larger section biased toward the front.

#Fotobubble - HILFE ! ⚠️ 🙏

Ist das noch dieses #Banding? Oder fehlt es da gröber?
Hab jetzt wieder mal abseits Astrofotos was "normales" fotografiert, kurze Belichtungszeit wegen schnellen Bewegungen.

Bird banding session at Wellfleet Audubon that was so fascinating and educational. Surprise guest was a hummingbird. In the picture, zoom in and find a Baltimore Oriole nest. #birds #banding #wellfleet #WellfleetWildlifeSanctuary #audubon #orioles

Finally, Blue N:334, a lesser black-backed gull ringed as an adult in 2020 at Ecomare, an animal rescue facility in Ílhavo, Portugal, this is the first sighting since.

Final ring information recieved: Two Herring Gulls with yellow rings N1:W and X8:W both were ringed in 2014 and seen multiple times since, but only ever either at Walney or in the local area, quite a contrast to the Lesser Black-backs who enjoy trips to Spain and North Africa!

My flatbed #scanner, an old Canon CanoScan 8800F, had developed a #banding issue. A much brighter band in the image. I don't use the scanner often, and I have no idea what had caused it.

At first I thought that I need to start correcting that in software, should be easy, just subtract a suitable amount from the band area in each colour channel of the image after scanning. In some suitable software. Probably a single trivial ImageMagick command-line.

At least two of the Curlew at Bowling Green Marsh had been ringed (or banded). One from the Netherlands, one from the Exe.

I escaped the house to get outside earlier today; a brief visit to #Exmouth #Devon for a look at the River Exe.

I was watching some #Oystercatcher and I saw that one had rings. I reported the sighting and the Devon & Cornwall Wader Ringing Group ( dcwrg.org.uk ) were good enough to reply with the bird’s history (see the screenshot) below.

The BTO have developed an adaptor for Number 2 ringing (banding) pliers, to make them easier to use for people with smaller hands - an excellent and simple bit of kit that will make ringing easier for a whole load of people
