The prickly pear cactus pad we laid down at the bottom of our property last fall has successfully rooted and grown itself a new pad!

A tiny prickly pear pad grows dark green out of a larger pale yellowish green pad below, mics weeds/brush can be seen around it

Good conditions on 30m last night. For the first time my #QRSS grabber at SO5CW received KQ9RSS from Decatur, IL, who is transmitting 200mW to an attic dipole. #hamradio #propagation

An overlay of the SO5CW grabber images from 2 to 4 UTC, showing KQ9RSS as the lowest trace.

I'd read on the internet that strawberry runners severed from their source plant won't be able to root. Of course I had to test that claim. Worked fine. #strawberry #fragaria #propagation #plants #fruit #gardening #vegetative

I put the air-layered Santa Rosa plum in the ground this evening. I pulled the big forsythia out this morning with a lot of rope and a big come-a-long, cut the root ball off with the chain saw, dragged off the brush, washed the dirt out the root ball and dragged it off, chopped out some more roots, hoed it up, raked it out, planted the plum.

It had lots of new roots filling up the pot and has been growing fast.

A photo showing a Santa Rosa plum tree that has just been planted. It is in a large dirt patch where a forsythia bush used to be. There is a wire fence cage around it to keep chickens from digging near the roots. It was started from air-layering on a very old plum tree that had a few shoots of new growth in one spot on a slowly dying tree. It's likely a tree planted by my Great Grandparents before 1950 since it's 12 inches or more in diameter and likely a dwarf root stock since it is a grafted tree because the root suckers don't have Santa Rosa plums but small yellow ones.A photo showing the roots of the plum after the pot was removed. There are lots of whitish roots on the side shown. A human is holding the root ball.

How long can you keep plants in the tray?
Well seems like as long as you want. I’ve continued to nurse and keep clean the tray and feed more when they seem hungry these have been in tray for months and ill cut them back today and give them their second leafing.
Be wary this is also high risk for root pathogens spreading amongst plants and you will get some funny shade avoidance responses if you dont thin the herd. #growyourown #clone #propagation #hydroponic #rootriot #rootcubes #clonetray #rooting #plants #indoorplants

Last year after a heavy storm, a branch of a tree broke in the park next door. I asked the Gardner if I could take it & he agreed.
Brought it home to the #balcony. planned it in a large pot with mix of old soil and compost.

Months later, all the leaves fell & I thought it was dead, but today I saw 3 new branches growing from the soil. I'm going to have a giant gorge flower tree in my next place,

Just another way I can cover my house in pottery. Made this piece a couple months back and finally found the perfect plant for it! #pottery #ceramics #clay #glaze #homemade #art #artpiece #potterypiece #potterywheel #stoneware #planter #houseplant #propagation

The Santa Rosa plum air layering has made roots! It's been 11 weeks since it was started. It should make a standard sized tree if it survives. I put it in a pot for now so I can be kept wet and out of the hot sun if necessary and figure out where I want to plant it.

The wrapped plum branch. It is clear cling type wrap around moss and dirt and stuff with the top and bottom ends sealed with black splicing tape. Roots are visible through the plastic. The root ball after it was cut from the tree and all the plastic wrap and tape removed. The roots are white and some of the moss is visible. It is sitting on top of the gallon bag pot it will be planted in. There are wood handled loppers in the background.A photo of the tree after being planted in the pot and tied to a stake with green tie tape that is stretchy. It's about 3 feet tall or one meter.

This weekend was interesting on the #6m band. #6meters was very strange this morning, a pretty much fiber-optic quality path right into Florida Every contact I had was a 59+. Also had a really good time last night on #20m getting a bunch of #POTA contacts.

I was happy to hear the latest 100 Watts and a Wire bemoan the poor state of the waves since May. As a #NewHam, it's good to know it's not just me: the bands really have been in an early summer doldrums. player.captivate.fm/episode/36

It's been very interesting to watch the radius of ft8 reception on 20m abruptly shrink at times over the past couple of weeks. I'm currently receiving nothing beyond very roughly 1,000 miles, the shortest reception radius I've ever seen for when the band has still been working at all. It's very striking to see on the map.

Propagation station!

Tradescantia (possibly fluminensis variety) which was brought home from a school trip to RHS Wisley (and potted there originally as part of the trip, now repotted).

Jade leaf (I think) which accidentally broke off a plant I was looking at in Sainsburys. (Honest it really was an accident!)

#houseplants #propagation

Two plant pots. A white one on the left containing a Tradescantia (variegated leaf with a tinge of purple) and a terracotta coloured pot on the right with a Jade leaf (green bulbous leaf) resting on the soil.
