AH ! Dovecot a enfin un support de SMTPUTF-8 (les adresses mails internationalisées) si on le compile avec la bonne option (--enable-experimental-mail-utf8).

C'est le cas dans Debian (c'est sans doute le défaut de Dovecot).

L'option ("mail_utf8_extensions") n'est ensuite pas active par défaut.

Activons là et a nous les adresses mails en katakana inutilisable \o/

The US government created an online application to fill out a DS-11 passport application. It generates a unique barcode so that the processor can quickly process the application without the need to type in the data.

The application does not support UTF-8 and letters like äöå come back as ?'s. So, here I am - printing out paper and writing in information, which will have to be typed back into a computer because some idiot programming team did not support UTF-8.

TIL: Deutsches #Excel (unter MacOS) erwartet beim Öffnen einer CSV-Datei UTF8-Encoding mit BOM. `iconv(1)` setzt kein BOM.
Warum Excel ohne BOM aber nicht ISO-8859-1 annimmt, ist mir noch schleierhaft.

#Unicode is one of those little things in life that I can't help but smile about.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. Is it better than the alternative? Yes, so much so that every time I'm confronted with a long list of character encodings I can choose from, I feel a sense of relief when I find #UTF8 among them.

I wouldn't have thought it possible to standardize a single character encoding for everyone, and yet, somehow, there is just such a standard.

@screwtape I must admit, I am having a hard time believing that you haven't ever seen someone enter #utf8 #unicode characters on a #computer in a natural way. It would be weird, because every Latin script letter and punctuation mark in your toot was a #utf8 #Unicode character.
