Was discussing with a project that wants to get rid of #minio as it seems it’s gonna turn not-free soon. The target will be #ceph but while discussing the subject, I started wondering why #WebDAV doesn’t get more love.

I’ve used it for file sharing over Internet and still use it for my CalDAV and CardDAV and it’s pretty solid IMHO.

Anyone know of a clever way to automatically keep select files on a #WebDAV share available offline, that works really well for you? I'm hoping for a FUSE filesystem or (since I'm a #GNOME guy) a Nautilus plugin or some gvfs helper.

To be clear, I'd love that thing to sync the remote file to a local copy while the WebDAV share is mounted, then transparently switch to the local copy when the connection goes away, and then resync once it comes back.

The Corroded DAV Filesystem just got its first mutating operation: rename/move (of existing files). It appears to work - even with names that require percent encoding.

BTW, if you spot some code that doesn't appear good rust style, it's probably because it isn't. I'm not quite sure if I know what I'm doing 😁

The #Supernote #WebDAV via #Nextcloud sync still won't let me open books from the server. Maybe that's intentional?

At least I can sync notes that way, which is a great start.

Sure, there's #SeedVault. Use with #webdav target or stow away a device-local file to a safe storage via #syncthing. The same for photos/media files.

But SeedVault excludes many apps like @signalapp or @threemaapp which has a buch of manual backup options hidden deep in the settings.

Can I automate that somehow?

Zacząłem lokalnie w labie wiejskiej naprawialni testy #SeaweedFS. Taki szwajcarski scyzoryk do storage.

Ależ to jest elastyczne oprogramowanie:

Po tym co się ostatnio dzieje z MinIO, szukałem zastępstwa, i taki wspaniały kombajn "odkryłem" :)

Noch einmal #Nextcloud

Die #WebDAV implementierung auf Linux ist offenbar sehr mangelhaft.
Eine per WebDAV über #GOA #GnomeOnlineAccounts gemountete Nextcloud hat massive Performance-Probleme. Videos lassen sich kaum bis nicht abspielen. Große Dateien öffnen... dauert. Drag&Drop von #Thunar oder #Nautilus in den #Firefox... brachte sogar meinen Firefox zum Absturz. Auf #Chromium ist es nicht besser.

Auch manuell per davfs eine Nextcloud-Freigabe mounten macht es nicht besser.

Ich schob bisher der Nextcloud die "Schuld" in die Schuhe. PHP und auf einem #Zimablade... ist halt nicht so performant...

Aber per sshfs/sftp gemountet ist es doch rasend schnell... fast wie von lokal.

Und dann entdeckte ich auf der Suche nach Lösungen, dass die Linux-Implementierung von WebDAV einfach grottig ist und ich nicht allein mit dem Problem mit Nextcloud bin.

Ich will die Verzeichnisse nämlich nicht syncen - wie mit der Nextcloud-App - sondern ich will sie remote mounten.

Also stieß ich bei der Recherche auf diesen tollen Artikel

Hier nutzt er die Fähigkeit von #rclone eine WebDAV Freigabe zu mounten.

Das einzige was mir an der Lösung nicht gefällt ist die system-systemd Lösung.
Also hab ich es auf eine Unit für den user-systemd umgebaut.
Einrichten von rclone wie im Artikel, nur folgendes File erstellen:

sudo editor /etc/systemd/user/rclone-nextcloud.service
Und mit folgendem Inhalt befüllen

Speichern und als USER (!!!!) folgendes ausführen:
systemctl --user daemon-reload && systemctl --user enable --now rclone-nextcloud.service

Und dann in seinem Homeverzeichnis/SHARED/ nachsehen. Da sollte sich dann ein Ordner befinden, wo man den Inhalt seiner Nextcloud wiederfindet.

Ich hab gerade 30 Videos mit in Summe ~50GB Daten auch hinkopiert (mit Drag & Drop in Nautilus) und die Daten waren ratzfatz drüben auf der Nextcloud!!
Ja sogar totem spielt die Videos tadellos ab. Über GOA gemountet muss ich da erstmal 1-2 Minuten warten und dann zeigt er mir nur einzelne Frames statt eines Videos...

Das Experiment „Meine Woche exklusiv mit #linux“ musste ich leider abbrechen - nicht, weil ich etwas nicht hätte machen können (außer der Steuererklärung, aber die war nicht dran), sondern weil ich @cryptomator zuletzt nicht richtig eingerichtet hatte. Ergebnis: Verschlüsselte Dateien auf dem #webdav-Laufwerk konnten nicht geschrieben oder gelesen werden. Der Mac konnte das. To Do fürs Wochenende: Cryptomator ggf. neu aufsetzen.
