Mein Start ins #Internet war der 28.08.1997 mit dem „AOL-Namen CA7LAX“ - zusammengesetzt aus „California 1973 Los Angeles“ - #Amerika war damal meine absolute Leidenschaft. Yeah I pirated 3D Studio v4. I was <does the math> 15? In Europe? I have no idea how I even got that software but it I made a lot of cool shit in that program and four very specific images even got me paid. Through #Compuserve.
Yeah that's right. We had Compuserve in Europe.

Esto era a principio de los 80 y mi nodo 'local' estaba en Barcelona. Yo pagaba una cuota mensual, un precio por minuto de conexión y la conferencia interprovincial. En definitiva unas 8000 pesetas de la época a la hora.
Pero cuando hacias una pregunta sobre el compilador C de Boland es probable que te contestase uno de los ingenieros que lo había diseñado.
Compuserve puso una pasarela a Internet, pero cuando pusieron Infovia yo me borré porque el precio de conexion esa insostenible.

El 1 de julio de 2009 cierra el servicio original de CompuServe (su correo siguió funcionando un par de años más). Fue un pionero en servicios en línea desde 1979 antes de la llegada de la web. AOL había adquirido CompuServe para integrar sus servicios y eventualmente desaparecerla

Growing up, my #Dad always went with the #underdogs in the #tech world, and it trickled onto me. We lived in #Texas. We didn't have a #Nintendo, we had a #Sega #MasterSystem. We didn't have an #intel processor, we had Cyrix. We didn't use #jazz or #iomega, we used SyQuest. We didn't run #Windows98, we used #Linux. We didn't go with #AOL, we went with #Compuserve. That spirit of #offthebeatenpath was awesome to grow up with, I saw so much cool obscure shit that others people never saw.

I was reading a story today about #theoldnet and how if you leave an “&” symbol at the end of an #email , it means you want the recipient to reply back. Does anyone remember this or still do this today? I don’t recall that being a thing or maybe it was and I didn’t notice. Gonna tag below with adjacent words in hopes of response.

I really burned the midnight oil many times.
