@avoca @mcc i didnt mean for it to be, but #session relies on a #cryptocurrency for the network to function so it shouldnt be on the list anyway, its just a way to start thinking about the different categories of encrypted messengers, #deltachat and #simplex would either be categorised alongside federation or be in a category halfway between federation and peer to peer, #cwtch and #meshtastic would go in the p2p section

Is it considered trusted and a known quanity because it has been arround for a long time? #Whonix removed it because it is unmaintained. #Tor blog mentions Hexchat in the #oniux announcement. You will have troubles authenticating and never get to the Palladium #onion if you try oniux hexchat. #old or #new : who to trust? When it comes to technology, treachery of the old and fidelity of the new?

Open question/food for thought, especially for people living in EU/EEA jurisdictions, about #privacy: How would you go about personal messaging in a worst case scenario with #ChatControl?

Just go on with your life (either because you and your friends already use a very hard to block, secure messaging service, or because you accept surveillance)? Fire up your own IRC server as an Onion service? #Cwtch? #Briar? Start writing a lot of letters on paper, because your handwriting is a great cipher after all those years behind a keyboard?

@desirable_dialogue well you are correct, however it always depends on ones risk model. Does #Cwtch has postQuantum encryption? Briar doesnt, and even if it had it's not usable enough for your average person, also you have to set up a Mailbox to receive messages while offline. Cwch really seems interesting thanks for sharing I didnt know about it. But if it does not have post quantum encryption for some risk models that only leave Signal, SimpleX and well iMessage(claim they have it).
