An elegant grey gadwall swimming along on shiny water that clearly reflects its head, which is turned to face back the way it came from.
🐥 The gadwall is closely related to the mallard. It was once a rare winter visitor, but is now a common breeding bird in the Netherlands ——- De krakeend is nauw verwant aan de wilde eend.

Honk like an Egyptian!?

Some Nile geese call their home too. First time I got a decent picture of them and some bonus gadwalls on the boardwalk.

The #WednesdayWaterbird is a #Gadwall, so that makes it the #DuckOfTheDay.

She’s etiher thinking about how pretty she is, or plotting nefarious deeds, and I know which my money is on.

Gadwall (Mareca strepera) at Abbott Marshland

Sunday 12 January 2025 I spotted this pair of Gadwall ducks (Mareca strepera) gliding through the icy water, unfazed by the cold. The male, with his subtle grey plumage and black bill, swam alongside the mottled brown female, both moving effortlessly between frozen patches of and open water. They weren’t in a hurry—just drifting, occasionally dipping their heads beneath the surface in search of food. Gadwalls aren’t flashy like Wood Ducks or Mallards, but I found their understated […]
