Krita runs okay on this upgraded (16GB DDR3, 250GB SSD) Lenovo X220 tablet/laptop, however brushes are hard to switch because of the small screen real estate. Thinking this is better for something like Aseprite (via Steam) pixel art creation. Charging it up over the weekend, fingers crossed the battery is still okay. #refurbished #linux #linuxmint

Manual recording of my health data such as blood pressure, blood sugar, sleep, steps and more in a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet, can be easily converted into a PDF for my doctors to evaluate
Am I missing anything? Absolutely not! This setup works just as smoothly and conveniently as previous ecosystem solutions from Apple, Google or Samsung. Only with significantly more privacy, without tracking and surveillance by US Big Tech

Yes, I am a very political person. And that's why the unbelievable has happened in the last few days: as an old Linux and Unix user since the 1980s, I've switched from Fedora to Linux Mint... (and I'm still using FreeBSD too)
Technically a step backwards, as Fedora is far more up-to-date and modern, but politically and morally a step forward. Why?
Here in Europe, since the fascist, racist, narcissist, uneducated primitive moron and would-be dictator Trump became president again, the debate about dependence on US big tech has flared up. And it has finally dawned on Europe to become digitally independent of the USA. What is a difficult and long-term process for politicians and companies (but the main thing is that it finally gets rolling) is much easier and quicker for private individuals - if only they want to.
Fedora = Red Hat = IBM.
I was a fan of Red Hat and Fedora for decades. That has changed since the IBM takeover.
And now that a fascist is in power and can ban US companies from offering their services and products in Europe or requesting data from European users in a minute with “executive orders”, I can no longer justify the use of a US distribution for myself and can no longer recommend it to anyone, but only an independent, European distribution such as Mint.

I distro hopped one of my computers from Manjaro to Linux Mint (LMDE). It was mainly because of some weird graphics bug, but also because a lot of people give it high praise that it just works.

Generally speaking, I’m really quite rah-rah for #linux, except today a subtle change to systemd just pissed me the fuck right off. So, I've been keeping my #LinuxMint work laptop up-to-date, and recently I've noticed that on bootup the system dumps out of the standard GUI start and heads to an "emergency recovery command-line” with a lame grunt to journalctl to find out why. I know why. !@#$ systemd! (1/3)

Funny how Win11 is essentially tuned for Microsoft's new Surface hardware — like macOS for Apple Silicon. For older x86 machines, Linux gives them a whole new lease of life. 💫

Tonight I plan on biting the bullet and doing the full reinstall/upgrade of my computer. Going from Linux Mint 21.2 --> 22.1. Going to enjoy a smoothie and watch some YouTube before starting while the 5 dollar Dominoes pizza cools in the fridge. Then to make sure to double check I did not forget to back anything up.

No, it’s not a re-post. That’s not KDE Plasma, nor is it GNOME. Hardcase is back on Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop, and I daresay he’s better than ever!
No, x11 isn’t as secure as Wayland, but #LinuxMint is faster, simpler, and easier to use on my old 2014 MacBook Air than #Fedora-based #UltramarineLinux. No more nags about a “tainted kernel.”
