I got it working. 🫶

Transpires that my bios might be at fault, not knowing how to deal with a larger-than-normal USB stick.

Serves me right for buying one offering a Terabyte. 😁 [#WillyWaving] But I got a new 16Gb one with the console I bought today so immediately repurposed that one and voila, working Ventoy. Quite nifty software, that. Enables multiple live USB loading, selectable from a GRUB menu, while also leaving the empty space free for storage. Cram it full of iSOs and porn (the new Netflix and Chill).

Ventoy = Recommended.

Sind hier Linux-Entwickler*innen anwesend, die also selbst an einer (oder mehreren) Distros entwickeln?

Wie aufwändig wäre es, LIVE-Distros so zu erweitern, dass während des Bootens, bevor der Prozess das GUI (Grafische Oberfläche) startet, eine Abfrage geschalten wird, in welcher Sprache die LIVE-Umgebung genutzt werden möchte?

Hintergrund:
Sehr viele - vermutlich die meisten Distros - booten in ein englisch-sprachiges GUI, mit einer auf Englisch (US) eingestellten Tastatur (u.a. z und y vertauscht und viele Sondertasten an anderen Stellen hinterlegt).

Das erhöht die Hürde für deutschsprachige Interessierte, die kein Englisch können, enorm.

(Mit "kein Englisch" meine ich tatsächlich, die nicht wissen, dass "Sprache" auf Englisch "Language" heißt, oder "Tastatur" "Keyboard", usw.)

Wenn ich mir anschaue, wie ich in Linxu Mint (Cinnamon) nur die Tastaturbelegung von Englisch auf Deutsch ändern muss, erfordert das 13 einzelne Schritte (ich habe es für eine Anleitung einzeln aufgeschrieben).

Damit ist aber das GUI noch nicht auf Deutsch umgestellt.
(sofern ich nichts falsch gemacht habe).

#Mastodon, j'ai un souci, et j'aurais bien besoin d'aide.
Je veux installer une #Kubuntu fraîche sur un ordi qui n'a pas été mis à jour depuis la version 18.04 (oui, ça fait longtemps).
Cet ordi, un #Asus N752vx-gc195T, tourne actuellement avec un dual-boot Kubuntu-Windows.

J'ai fait un #liveCD et une #liveUSB pour mon #install mais les deux, après un passage par l'écran #Grub, ne me proposent qu'un écran noir.

J'ai modifié tous les paramètres de la clé et du bios (MBR, EFI etc.). Désactivé le secure boot. Ajouté les paramètres nomodeset, acpi=off lors du lancement de Grub. Essayé la version 22.04
Rien.
La seule chose que j'aie, c'est un écran un peu plus verbeux lorsque je remplace "quiet" par "verbose", mais qui plante en quelques poignées de secondes et me laisse comme sur la photo ci-dessous.

Je ne sais plus quoi faire. #help

Among the ones I tried: Artix, BlissOS, Bodhi, BookwormPup64, Bunsenlabs Boron, CrunchBang++, Chimera Linux, Damn Small Linux, InstantOS, KNOPPIX.

These all didn't work for one reason or another.

I am also pending to try: Mabox, MX Linux, Nitrux NX, PorteuX, Q4OS, Solus, Ubuntu Unity.

All of these have something unique about them that makes them interesting to run in a live environment, and I recommend you do too!

Personally, I wish there were more "#LiveCD" (or rather "#LiveUSB") distros like @tails_live / @tails / #Tails and @kalilinux that that offer a comprehensive set of #tools and benefits for users.

Ideally with some nifty tools (compareable to Tails' #PersistentSotrage) to allow mounting local/remote storage as $HOME and potentially leverage toram as boot option.

Bonus if that works via #iPXE for a #Diskless #Administrator Desktop to boot into.

Certainly that "#RescueLinux" part is mid- to ongterm goal of OS/1337 and I am working on it (abeit at a pace slower than I want to cuz 'things happen in meatspace' and those sadly require my full attention...

Needless to say it's always good to have a nifty system at hand (worst-case I'd install @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS #Desktop on an external SSD/HDD and have that at hand) if one doesn't have their Distro on a hot-swappable / toolless replaceable drive anyway...

Using #ArchLinux is quite good because it makes it easy to get started and adapt said system as need be.

Looking at #lightweight #Linux distros and window managers. I already know I like #CrunchBang and its standard #OpenBox from when I last daily-drove Linux, So #CrunchBangPlusPlus and #BunsenLabs are obvious first picks, and have already made it onto my #Easy2Boot / #Ventoy #LiveUSB, but I've also peeked at #Nobara and decided to try it on for size as well.

Looking at a few other window managers, I was pretty impressed by #AwesomeWM and have also heard good things about #FluxBox.

All will suit my needs more or less equally (and any can be modified or switched), each just have unique flavors, quirks, and footprints.

@FlashMobOfOne I'll do you one better. I'm uninstalling #Windows wholesale, because I have finally lost interest in harboring corpo malware/gov #spyware on my devices intentionally anymore, which doesn't seem to offer any valid advantage itself over other systems anyway.

#windowsupdate, #msstore, #msdefender, search app, #edgebrowser, shell-embedded ads, nonstop logging and telemetry, things just refusing to function reasonably because Windows knows that it's a day that ends in "Y" -- Windows ceaselessly masturbating itself in various elaborate ways finally ran out my last iota of sanity.

In my assessment, the point of me having my computer was for me to use it, not just to have it sit there wasting time touching itself — and galavanting in the background with my system resources as if it had worse ADHD than me while I seethe and reach for the #ProcessHacker on my taskbar that I've kept perpetually open with Admin rights for most of the last decade (along with #ResMon and #TaskMgr; in order to combat Windows' defensive strategy of gaslighting the user about what it is or isn't doing) — instead of actually doing what I tell it to.

Anyway, enough about bad operating systems. Anybody happen to feel any particular preference between #CrunchBangPlusPlus (#!++) and #BunsenLabs #Debian? Haven't decided yet which I'm settling on (I have them both loaded on a #liveusb using #Easy2Boot / #Ventoy), but I was a daily driver of og #CrunchBangLinux back in the day.

Как я пришёл к пониманию основ создания Live-дистрибутивов Linux, решив починить свой старый SSD

Был у меня старенький SSD объёмом 240 Гбайт от Kingston, который внезапно перестал работать, вообще перестал распознаваться в системе. Попробовал я подключить SSD к другому компьютеру, попробовал использовать как внешний диск, ничего не дало результата. Поэтому я купил новый, а этот разобрал. Внешних признаков, указывающих на то, что SSD сгорел, я не заметил, а интуиция говорила: «Проблема программная». Выбрасывать диск не хотелось, поэтому он остался пылиться до «лучших» времён. И вот недавно захотелось попробовать его починить. К своему удивлению, я достаточно быстро нашёл необходимую статью на Хабре , где рассказывалось, как можно оживить SSD на том же контроллере, что и мой, отдельную тему на форуме Ru-Board , а также статью с подробной инструкцией , по ней я и восстановил свой SSD. Но кроме восстановленного SSD я еще приобрёл и закрепил знания по Linux, которые изложил в этой статье. Всем, кому интересно, добро пожаловать под кат.
