Common Green Shieldbug, Palomena prasina. The adults are bright green in the spring and summer. They become bronze-brown prior to hibernation.Common Earwig, Forficula auricularia. The strongly curved forceps identify this as a male.7-Spot Ladybird, Coccinella septempunctata. A red Ladybird with black spots.

Hard to see against the leaf, this elevated, slender shieldbug is a Box Bug (Gonocerus acuteangulatus).

This is another recent arrival in the UK.

A little above freezing but the bright sunshine resulted in some basking.

This was the star of the day.

On a shiny, fleshy ivy leaf a large, pale brown insect is clinging. It is vaguely rectangular but has sharply pointed shoulders and large antennae

A #HawthornShieldBug (possibly) for #InsektenSamstag. Spotted this little show-off on the summit cairn (!) of #YrWyddfa/#Snowdon, where it nearly got trampled. 🤨
(Also, the sun was so bright so I didn't realize the focus is a bit off, sorry 🫣)

This image shows a close-up of a green shield bug, also known as a stink bug, resting on a rough, light-coloured stone surface. The bug has a vibrant green back with some reddish-brown markings on its underside and legs. Its long, thin antennae are visible, extending forward. The shadow of the bug is clearly cast on the stone, indicating bright lighting. In the background, there is a small dead fly, adding to the natural outdoor setting. The texture of the stone surface is detailed, with various indentations.

Carpocoris mediterraneus, the red , is a species of shield bug in the family .

A #shieldbug of some description sitting in the centre of a yellow flowerhead.

A shieldbug of some sort sits at the centre of a yellow flower head. The bug is mainly green, with a brown behind and a yellow chevron on the top of its carapace, just below the head. The antennae are visible. The flower, given the overlapping petals and the central seed head, seems to be a member of the daisy family.A shieldbug in the centre of a yellow flowerhead - so central that it is actually standing on the central seedhead. The bug is largely green, though it has a brown behind and a yellow chevron on its back, not far from it's head.

A very pretty insect today. Hairy Shieldbug (Dolycoris baccharum).

A side view of a bug with alternate black and white bands on the antennae. The back is leathery, with plates of purple and green, with brown wings visible. There is skirt of primrose with brown stripes, rather like a tortoise

Tortoise Bug (Eurygaster cf. testudinaria) on Agrimony, in #Bath #Somerset #UK. A species now moving north, probably in response to climate change.

Bugspotting 2025 #1
The weather wasn't quite good enough for proper bugspotting but this shield bug was very photogenic!
