Asking into the void: If I want to self-host a Wafrn instance, can I migrate my current account / content or will I have to start over?
Hello, alternative Desktop OS people!
If I want to refer to a desktop computer operating system that isn't Windows or Apple, what is a fast way to do it that most people will understand?
I know there's more than just Linux and that something like FreeBSD has a different technical history and isn't just another flavour of Linux, but I just don't know the quick and accurate term for it.

EDIT: kind people found it by searching for its description. I’m so used to web searches being useless now, it hadn’t even occurred to me to try that! Thanks to @samantha @amethyst73 & @VulcanTourist
I’m sure there is a fancy way to use the tubes to find this T-shirt from just the picture, but I don’t know what it is. Do I have to turn on #AppleIntelligence on my phone? I’d prefer not to do that, but I would very much like to own the T-shirt so if that’s the solution I will
i have been having a constant issue with my website. Seemingly, my website is getting slammed with bots. Constantly.
I know I am not the most popular person on the planet, not by a long shot, but I shouldn't be receiving literal thousands of visitors on my website daily. I expect maybe only a few at most. So how in the heck do I stop this?
I am stuck with cloudflare with the time being, and I know it isnt the greatest option but it is the only service i know that offers me a decent reverse proxy to my docker containers.

Somehow my Wafrn account just started showing up in Openvibe as a separate Mastodon profile???

What's everyone's general Multi-factor Auth methodology? Does everyone else fear the device controlling their MFA app is going to up and blink out of existence someday? How does one deal with that happening?
In testing a postgres upgrade (13->15) for our mastodon-servcer, I run into a fatal error 'Your installation contains user-defined objects that refer tointernal polymorphic functions with arguments of type "anyarray" or "anyelement". Haven't been able to find a fix for this online, and there seems to be no logfile to pinpoint the cause. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? #techquestion #mastoadmin #postgres [Edit: solved, see reply]
Are Web Components & Cybersecurity A Better Combo?
I'm not trying to dunk on popular #UI #frameworks – I'm sure they're totally fine for #cybersecurity stuff, probably get loads of reviews and #audits.
But from my angle: Web Components are *native* to the #browser. Doesn't that just inherently reduce the risk of **#SupplyChainAttacks** (you know, like a rogue `npm install` on a bad network) for your #AppSecurity?
Or am I overthinking it, and the #framework choice is less important than the #browser, #OS, or #device running it? What are your thoughts, #DevCommunity?

Quick context: I've got a #ReactJS #messagingApp (repo here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/chat) and a separate #UIFramework (repo here: https://github.com/positive-intentions/dim) built with #Lit (which uses Web Components). I'm genuinely wondering if there's a compelling #cybersecurity reason to refactor the chat app to use my #WebComponent UI framework. Might be a whole new level of #SecurityByDesign for #FrontEndDev.
FYI, same question's on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ExperiencedDevs/comments/1lmk1rg/are_web_components_better_for_cybersecurity/, got some good #insights, but want to make sure nothing's getting overlooked! Let's discuss #InfoSec #WebDev #JavaScript #OpenSource #TechQuestion.
There is a thing which does confuse me. Sometimes if I run 'yay' on my arch installation to update all packages entering my password does not work.
I double checked if some modifier key is active by writing it to the console and it is correct. Still I cannot enter the password correctly.

to people with more knowledge regarding GPU/ GPU drivers on Linux:
I recently bought a wide-screen monitor which has 165hz, since then when playing eu4 in full screen mode the GPU just "says no" (all 3 monitors go black, and the ventilation goes to 100%) the computer is still on but yeah I have to force shut down it in these situations.
and a few minutes ago this happened randomly (Minecraft, Browser and TeamSpeak were pretty much the only open windows)
So my question is: How can I troubleshoot this? I searched through journal entries but no logs that scream to my noob eyes that they are responsible.
so thanks in advance!
(I really like the new monitor so I would prefer it if I could keep using it :S)
(GPU is AMD RX 480 with 4 GB VRAM)
(Edit: OS is Fedora 42, up to date, and I'm using Gnome)
So I am thinking about launching a #FOSS #searchengine locally. It would cache so when I don't have internet access, I could browse the small web and enjoy great articles. I could also give access to interested friends and family.
Do you have suggestions other than #yacy and #wiby?
Yacy seems better but the search quality is not good. And regarding wiby, it uses #sql for the database :/
Boosts very much appreciated.
PS: The blogs which do #linkdump like @82mhz would be a very good seed. Already roasted meat ready to be served :)
Edit: I thought development of Yacy has stopped. But checking their repo, they are still active:
Edit2: On Yacy forum, people complain about bugs and no update. I also have found this: https://marginalia-search.com/

Is there a way to specify the dns server up address that is then used for all wifi connections. Currently it seems these things are setup on a per wifi network basis. I wanna help grandma set and forget for example.
If I do incremental backups, so each backup only saves the files that changed since last backup, does that mean it also deletes files that I deleted since last backup? Or does it keep everything and when I restore my backup some day it'll also bring back tons of files I deleted long ago?
Is there a way to perform logical operations on Mastodon searches?
For example searching for @randomuser AND #randomhashtag ?
